I'm also interested as to why you say it's absolutely impossible ?.
-
found a vid on the net of it being done ;) he gets the back end out, turns into it and then balances that whilst power sliding and then lets the steering wheel go and it flips back to the forward :):)

Simple answer;
With a car equipped with power steering, if you can control it with two hands, you can with one hand.
Regardless of power-slide, doughnut or parking at Asda.

No, its absolutely impossible.
Rubbish - can be done quite easily - but why use one hand only? - unless you've only got one ;)
-
Personally speaking find drifiting one handed pretty simple.......Maybe I spend too much time in the car!!!!!!

Sorry, I was taking the piss :P

thanks lol :'(

If you have rear wheel drive and plenty of power you can easily do it with one hand, you can even do it with your knees with a bit of practice, not that i would recommend it.

or you're a disabled driver / motorsport driver with handcontrols :y
There's a clip on the net, Japanese with no subtitles, and the driver is a disabled 'drift' driver with full controls set up enabling him to drift the car nicely.
One of the top professional drift drivers has a go, but does take a bit of a go before he gets the hang of it.
I fancy having a go myself ::)

please don't admit to steering with one hand on a public forum.
I'm pretty sure that if you had an accident tomorrow, then your insurance wouldn't cover you. You have after all just admitted to driving routinely without proper care and atention.
power slides on Top Gear are driven one-handed because the drivers are eejits.

I wish people would stop trying to be God-like.
Nobody drives in the manner they would drive if taking a test.
There is no law which says you have to have both hands on the wheel at all times. FFS, give it a rest.
EDIT: I MOST OF THE TIME DRIVE WITH ONE HAND ON THE WHEEL! OH NOEZ, MY INSURANCE IS INVALID! OMGOSH ROFFLESKATES FUNNYCAT! :-/

Please, I;d love you to expand on your comment.
How does the event of having an accident when only having one hand on the wheel constitute as driving without proper care and attention?
Do drivers of cars with a manual gearbox have to indicate, pull over, select their next gear and then rejoin the road?
Stand by it all you like, but an insurance company will not be interested in how many hands you have on the wheel unless it can be proven you are doing something daft, like eating, drinking or using a phone (as examples).

Right hand = Steering / Wipers
Left hand = Indicators, Radio (well car PC in my case), sticking it in drive/park.
Dont know why, but it feels strange with my left hand on the wheel. :-X

one of my guys was called as a witness in some legal proceedings just about 12 months ago. The question he was asked was "in your opinion, would the fatality have been avoided if the driver had proper control of the vehicle - and by that I mean both hands on it ?"
eating / drinking, etc. are viewed as "not in proper control" because the hand is being used for other things than steering, not just because the other thing might distract the attention.
there were really two things that I was trying to bring up, firstly that driving one-handed is unsafe, but the second is that even if personally you don't think it is unsafe, you should still be able to work out that the authorities are going to take a very dim view of it, so posting it on a web forum is a mistake.
In the above legal case, if the driver had posted "I don't use both hands", then that may have made the difference between a "due care and attention" and a "death by dangerous driving" with attendant prison sentence. ( well, if it was in a civilian court anyway )
I come from a place where driving safety is taken very seriously, but even so there is no excuse to lower standards just because you're driving on a public road. Both hands on wheel, never further than top or bottom is a good standard

If your talking about not being in proper control; it makes little difference having one or two hands on the wheel, once your in a powerslide it is technically a skid, as one or more of the tyres has lost traction on the road, therefore your not in proper control of the car anyway. ;)
There's obviously something other than the number of hands you have on the wheel that's gone wrong. ie. your going to fast or you've hit some oil on the road etc. :y

Wow isn't this topic getting serious ;D
-
if you want to steer one handed why not buy a steering handle(bolts onto steering wheel)...great inventions allowed me to drive with a broken arm and quite reasonabily priced, and yes they are legal :y
-
If you look abour 98% of landrovers are driven one handed,
its just easier that way,

One's normally holding the door closed. ;)
If I had 3 hands I'd want them all on the wheel in one of those.

I was thinking the other is holding it in gear, but same idea ;D

just checked my post and wow it's got a bit serious lol.
i would like to say that after reading the posts i am now driving at ALL times with both hands on the wheel so as not to invalidate my insurance.
