they are great  :D

we had a xr3i in diamond white oo say about 1989 and it had a alarm on a toggle switch (remember them  ;D) if you switched it on while the car was driving it sounded the alarm which funnily enough was a dead ringer for a police siren  :D  oh how i used to enjoy getting right up behind people and switching the alarm on (by accident  ::)) and watching them move away or slow down.

regards them flashing blues i could not have them on my car for fear of getting done as the temptation to flick them on would be too great :P

Broomies Mate - calm the language please.

OP - check the legality before using the car on the road.

Sorry for that.  Just slightly annoyed that this type of thing is permitted here seeing as it is highly illegal to fit any form of blue light, let alone flashing ones when used on the public highway.

Perhaps the OP should read the following before being tempted to flick the switch;

http://www.ukemergency.co.uk/information/bluelightuse.htm

Relevant legislation is noted at the end of the piece.

Forget flicking the switch  ;)  If they are fitted, the driver is in serious trouble.

Without sounding cheeky, you've expressed your opinion, now if you don't like it, why do you keep coming back? Plenty of other peaople seem to like it and want a set for themselfs.

Methinks he is trying to actively save folks from SERIOUS trouble. If you are caught with these lights on your vehicle it is quite possible to be charged with "impersonating a police officer" as well as several Road Traffic Offences.

To fit them is dangerous, stupid, illegal.

Personally speaking, any vehicle with these fitted should be crushed without a seconds notice. Mights stop idiots trying to be clever.

And yes... I choose my words deliberately, as there is no point in fitting these lights unless they are intended to be used. The only use they have is "pretending" to be police.

An idiotic and illegal practice.

Remember all, it is not illegal to have such items fitted but, it is illegal to use them on the public highway.

Hence if somebody wishes to fit them that is fine and thier own free choice.

With due respect Mark .. I think you are wrong ... blue lights, even fitted and not working, are, I believe, illegal.....  if the vehicle is on the public highway.

The wording of the law is quite plain..

http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1989/1796/regulation/11/made

Quote
........   a lamp which is capable ......

I won't quote the whole Statutory Instrument ... but blue lights are specifically for certain vehicles only .. the light does not have to be on to be illegal .. just being present and "capable"  (and I'm told that the possibility of reflected light and/or sunlight shining through means it is capable of showing blue)

There has been much coverage of this since an enthusiast was "done" for having a covered light bar fitted ... the lights must now be removed completely not just covered.. :(

There is also the regulation

http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1989/1796/regulation/16/made

which is pretty specific

Quote
Restrictions on fitting blue warning beacons, special warning lamps and similar devices

16.  No vehicle, other than an emergency vehicle, shall be fitted with–

(a)a blue warning beacon or special warning lamp, or

(b)a device which resembles a blue warning beacon or a special warning lamp, whether the same is in working order or not.

My highlight.

Well everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Pointless or otherwise, it's up to the individual who has the lights to be aware and be prepared for the consequences if he/she gets caught using them on the road. As for using them off-road, it's perfectly legal.

As you say ... entirely your choice but I suggest you think "having" them rather than "using" them .. ... if you bothered to read the information and links I posted ...

and to get to most "off road" places you have to go "on road" .. and I doubt you will be using a trailer, or removing/refitting the lights every time ... so you will, at some point be breaking the law ...

as you say .. your choice ...

and as you also say .. I'm entitled to my opinions .....  :)

one of which is that you are deliberately using this thread as an advert for your goods ... ???

To add my 2d penny worth, Entwood is exactly right.

A police patrol, who I was with at Folkestone last year, had need to remind the owner of a real American police car, that was in a company car park next to the police station, that he must cover up all its blue/red police lights, cover the police signs, and never use the two's on the highway.  Although the view was taken it was unlikely that the English public would be fooled by an American police car in Folkestone, the law still had to be maintained and enforced.

There was a case as well last year of a car, just like the OP's, that was used to fool motorists into pulling over and parting with cash. They were caught. The OP takes the risk of being tarred with this brush and being accused of far more than impersonating a police officer!

Finally, remember, there is far more to being a police officer than running around with the blue's and two's on.  It is only the childish who think they can be 'just like the police'.  Just imagine the constant responsibility involved, and if you were mistaken for real police at an incident you would certainly 'feel' that responsibility for a short while, until the real police arrested you!! ::) ::)

If I had them on my own car then maybe I would have read your posts in full. But as I only sell them, I really couldn't care less what people care to do with them.

As I was looking for opinions, I thank you for all the time you've had to sacrafise out your clearly busy day to research this topic. Without people like yourself, I wouldn't know half the stuff I know now. Many thanks!  :y

Yes these may look like a lot of fun and get you through a little traffic and save you a few minutes, but apart from the offences like impersonating a police officer and road traffic offences, if you put these on and a car infront of you panics and swerves out of the way you could cause a serious accident, maybe even kill someone. If you want blue lights etc on your car then join the police.

Best thing that can happen to this thread is the Mods delete it in total .. :)  Just my opinion .. nowt else .. :)

Dave, I feel the need to stick my oar in here. The written/typed word can be far more annoying/offensive than the same word/s are when spoken, purely because there is no voice inflection to put the true meaning across. This is where the 'smileys' come in. While they are not perfect in every situation, they serve for most. Imho, no smiley or punctuation after your answer above^^ says bloody rude & uncalled for. I've never known Entwood be anything more nor less than helpful and evenhanded, so how about editing the reply with a 'smiley'? purely in the spirit of OOF fair play  :y

@ Dave Elite....  Comment uncalled for, in my opinion.....

You have had more than your fair share of free hearing on here, so why not give the same slack to others?

Just because the comments on this thread (and others, please elucidate, if so??) did not go with your taste does not give carte blanche to bad mouth (type) others without reason.

You and I have crossed swords before regarding your obvious lack of consideration for others.  Please do not attempt go down that path again.

ta....  :y

Incedentally and having a passing consideration to the original post, if you want to fit them, be prepared to take the pain of being stopped by trafpol whether they are switched/wired to work or not.

And to those who may think otherwise, personally, I don't give a tuppeny whatsit as to what you think of my past occupation.  If you want to be one, then go pass the training courses and by default, pick up the blood and snot thats left and pass on the sad news to those remaining before trying a cheap way to get through traffic.

Sad, really.....   :-X
