Title: New Vauxhall Vectra Problem (Is this allowed?)
Post by: sophos9 on 04 July 2007, 13:02:21
Hi all

The Omega is running OKish, apart from the coolant leak erm and the oil leak oh and the screenwash leak... he he

Anyway I just picked up a 1.8 2001 Vectra with a Z18XE for the missus... Got this cheap as it has a few problems - I'm hoping you can be kind enough to help

Problem 1:
Whilst driving, the temperature gauge reads just above the blue, hot air comes out and as soon as you are idling, the temperature starts to rise quick - my money - thermostat?

Problem 2:
EMS light comes on at random times, acceleration goes all 'juddery' about 1min later, EMS goes off and all is good - def a sensor but which one? Am I able to do the paperclip test on this car?

Problem 3:
Crunching/knocking sound from driverside front when hitting large/off camber things in the road (not old people ). What do you think this is?

Problem 4: :
At idle/low revs, there is a noticeable 'lumpyness', the car is in dire need of a service, should plugs and leads sort this? If not, what other culprits?

Hope Vectra help is allowed?

Many thanks

1. Does sound like thermostat......easy 10min job to change on the 1.8 ....i changed them both on my veccies.

2. Dont think you can paperclip it (im guessing a bit but doubt it as it will be FBW and you carnt on the FBW Omegas)......cheapo tech2 from fleabay can read the codes tho.

3. sounds like droplink if it clunks going over bumps (had the same on my veccyB)

4. Could be related to 2. Reading the codes are a definate. If no sensors problems being reported...and is just complaining of missfires detected (this will cause the eml to come on). Then my money is on  plugs or coilpack (fairly common failure) but do have a peer down the plugs wells just incase they are filling up.

If you can get the codes read......i would make a note of them....then clear them....and see which ones is any come back....codes stored could be years old  :y

Oh and before spending big money on it.....its definately worth checking the breathers arent blocked and a clean of the throttle body wouldnt go amiss too  :y

BTW How many miles?
