Title: Project TB2 - Update 13
Post by: TheBoy on 23 June 2007, 15:17:41
Since last proper update, it has had its new box fitted (thanks Laidback66, JamesV6CDX, Tunnie, and Ronnie McB for various help :y).

I have not yet had the head off (working up the courage!).

However, this is where the plot thickens.......

I have just taking it out, and ragged the chuff off it for 20 odd miles. Villages aside, my foot was hard on the floor, either on accelerator or brake.

Yet I couldn't get the temp to go above 97 on gauge  :-/

Before, if I had done that, it would be way up the gauge after 2 or 3 miles.  OK, the temperature is down a couple of degrees (currently 18C), and the A/C isn't working - could the condensor be creating too much heat?  :-/

Bizarre...

you've probably improved it with the new Rad, Stat, and flushes... but I still reckon there's an internal problem..

Whatever happens.. it's gonna be a head off job.. :(

Offer of help still stands mate.

But I've done nothing since the last tests  :-/ - except the A/C has packed up again.

I might be talking crap but could the knackered box have been generating a load of heat and boiling the system up?

That possibility had crossed my mind, however, I still have too much pressure in cooling system than is healthy, so need to carry on investigating (and take that head off  >:()

I remembered I had done an oil flush with some rather 'strong' oil flush, so its likely that has made the difference.

Still seems to be too much pressure, so need to understand what can cause it.

Gearbox played up again today, so that is fubar  :'(

has to be your dodgy box that was causing the issue....if youve ragged it so much that you cant produce the temperature issue, and all you`ve changed is the box... :-/

Gearbox is my fault! :( I didn't know it was an A25 until Dave delivered it, By then it was too late. Sourcing another box ASAP and will help fit ith pleasure. Hopefully my project will be gone by then, so i can go on my drive to do.

I think it maybe coz the aircon isnt working at the moment.
Ive noticed this on my veccyC and omega.
Driving at a constant speed on the m4, air con off.......turn it on and temp gauge creeps up 3/4C and stays there....turn it off and the temp comes back down again.

Ive assumed its the heat from the aircon rad passing thro the engine rad.....heating the coolant up a few degrees and perfectly normal.

Or the engine just having to work harder

No desperate hurry - this weekend is Silverstone, which is 6m from me.  What with all the road closures and extra traffic, I'll be a hermit for the weekend :(

Do you know what pressure the system is running at Jaime and what pressure it is suppossed to run at? As long as it is not passing water by the pressure cap and the temp is now at an acceptable level i would leave well alone. I am convinced that the temp build up was caused by the dodgy box with an increase in ATF temprature being passed into the coolant via the gearbox oil cooler. As long as the temp remains stable and in acceptable limits, run it and see what, if anything develops. Good luck, Jez
