I checked the oil on weds & put a drop in, i thought at the time "i'll put my filler cap back in a second when i've put the oil back".
That's not exactly what happened, yup you guessed it i closed the bonnet & forgot to replace the cap ::) ::)
I went to a carboot this morning & i thought i could occasionaly smell burning oil, but thought nothing of it.
Washed her this morn & popped the bonnet to wipe around only to find oil all over the rocker cover ;D & the cap sat on the battery :-[ :-[
I topped her up with 300ml of oil & now all is good again :)
It could've been alot worse though, fortunately i was only doing low revs, but if i'd given her some like i do sometimes & do many more miles, well that's another story :( :(
Moral of the story is "always do something when you think about it" :y

At least you still had the cap ;) I lost mine on the MR2 when I did that..
.. and then found it again three years later when I took the back bumper off! ;D

Unless I do something as soon as I think of it, something WILL distract me and it won't even get thought of for another 4 hours, so I do it there and then. I'm terrible like that :-[

I can't remember who I am most of the time ::)

Done it before myself on my old motor except it took me over a week to notice and about 2 hours to clean engine bay and drive. ;D

My neighbour many years back was an engine fitter, he had just finished a MK2 Granada Ghia X, probably 4-5yrs old. Final job was putting the air filter back on, he placed it into position but as he didn't have the bolts he left the required socket on top of the cleaner ready for his return. At which point he got called to assist someone else, by the time he was finished it was home time so he just went to his car and dropped the bonnet ::)
His boss was not amused at the panel beater and sprayers costs but he never left sockets out again ;D

My mate did that with a mug, dropped the bonnet down & smashed the mug to bits. He had a good sized bulge in the bonnet for a while ;D
