Title: Been down my scrappy
Post by: luv_my_mv6 on 03 July 2007, 16:18:39
Hello guys, im a bit reluctant to post this question as it could lead to problems of the obvious sorts, but down my scrappy, there are 4 omegas, 3 2.0l and one 2.5 or 3.0? The 2.5/3.0 has had the headlights and washers taken, engine gone etc, but my main intrest is the back, the boot is locked, obviously by the c/l and with no battery in the car making it a fortress to get into.... now, I know alot will say go through the doors and put the seats down, but with 2 cars stacked ontop of it, im reluctant to open the doors incase the whole lot comes crashing down on me where the roof support from the doors has gone, is there a way of opening the boot (saloon) by leaning through a window in either the drivers door or front passenger door or by other means? there is also a heavy covering of broken windscreen and side window glass all over the seats, so climbing in via that way is going to be deadly. I dont mind PM if its a bad subject, or if this post needs removing please do!
Oh and something that could be of intrest to someone, there is a set of yellow sport springs inside the car with red 'GM' logo on each, im happy with my suspension but if anyone is intrested, i'd be happy to recover n pay then send em on for the same as they charge me + postage - though im not sure if they are infact for an omega - they dont look like they ever got fitted before whatever car they were for met its maker  ;)

the smashed windscreen glass should be fine to sit on, move on. Its saftey glass, down my scrappy i have sat on seats with broken windscreen glass on, its not a problem.

The rear doors will not add any real strength to the car, try to open (carefully!) if it opens easy, then you should be fine. Its its stuck fast then you will have to get a drill!

You could try drilling the boot lock, other than that. No other way in, unless the key is still in the car. Which sometimes it is in scrappys! Check the glovebox  :y

Take care!! don't want you getting hurt or cut...

I have just found from personal experiance the windscreen glass to be ok (i was waring Jeans, t-shirt + a boiler suit) so quite a lot of padding!

You could always smash the window of the rear window and lean in, pull down the rear seats and see whats in there. Might be worth taking a pile of old rags or something to chuck in, so when you climb in, you have some padding  :y

I love scrappys, big kids playground!  :D

Just one piece of advice from someone who has been in the glass trade for 20+ years. If you are going to go scrambling about in broken toughened or laminated glass wear some gloves. You will not get cut but there are thousands of glass splinters that will probably get stuck into your skin. They are unlikely to do any damage but they sting like hell and take days to grow out. Then, every time you put pressure on that spot the splinter gets pushed back in.

Ouch :'(

I got to a scrappy in West Drayton, just the other side of Uxbridge, always loads of cars in there, only problem is the forklift truck, they dont look where they are going, so watch out for it if you go!!!

I have used them a lot - huge one near Cheltenham - Harry Buckland

I had a lot there for my Sunbeam, rear wash wipe, door pockets, better interior trim, radiators, cylinder head, even stripped a Chrysler 180 of its rear calipers.

Got an engine for when my mum had an old Avenger estate, swapping engines over then was so easy compared to today.

Scrappies are brill'!!

I do try to have my own one from time to time, (Trying for it now as it happens!!), but SWMBO usually nips it in the bud!!

Yeah, I  ususally end up walking out with much more than I went in for too!! (And not even necessarily for the same car either!!)

Very theraputic pastime!!

i like having a good nose in the cars, often they are still full of personal history, who owns them and their address  :o :o

Our scrappy just seamed to have loads of old Jaguar XJS's in, had 2 of the 6.0 V12's and a 3.6.... quite interesting having a nose at the old Jags  :)
