Title: I Do Not Believe it!!!!!!!!!!
Post by: Lizzie_Zoom on 21 October 2010, 17:09:50
As those who read my thread about a poxy white van man who clipped my bumper on Tuesday, well I can now add Poxy OAP!!!

Going into Sainsbury's this afternoon; go to turn right into a space, and whack!!!  A silly sod has come forward from his parking space on my nearsideand scrapped his front bumber, with number plate down my rear passenger nearside door!!

He got out and said "so sorry, my foot slipped!!"  "It is the first time, and I have been driving 60 years" !!!!!!! >:( >:( >:(  Fortunately the OAP travelled at slow speed into my side, and caught more the plastic trim along the door, with gouges in the paintwork, but no dents!

Anyway I took down all his particulars and contacted my Insurance Broker, the AA, who gave me the option (yet again!!*) of going through the direct insurance company route - paying, claiming back my excess, arranging repairs, basic loan car, or going through Claimfast who would arrange the collection of my car, its repair and return, whilst providing an equal loan car to my Elite.  As before* I said "YES!!" to the second option!

All arranged  already for my car to be collected on Monday, with the "prestige" loan car provided the same day. As damage should be speedily sorted out, my car should come back relatively quickly.

The OAP's insurance company rang up shortly after and accepted liability 8-) 8-)

*It was a year ago on the 4th October that my CDX was shunted up the back and eventually written off, and then the AA sent me to Claimfast with me ending up with a Merc E320CDi for 6 weeks.  Tremendous service, and made a drama enjoyable! :D :D :D :D :D :D

Yeah, this week I reckon I have had this target affixed to my car - hit her here!!! ::) ::) ::) ::)

When I think of the speeds I have driven at, for decades, and this is the third accident in just over a  year when I'm either stationery or doing just 2 mph!! ::) ::) :( :(

Who says speed is dangerous?  No its not, it is being stationery that is bloody dangerous!!!  Like 5 years ago, on a motorway hard shoulder, and I was, I swear, the thickness of my clothes from being wiped out by a continental 44 tonner!! :o :o :o :o :o

Yes, but that would have been rolling the car at 150mph, which would be far more understandable; you know, my fault, not due to the lunatics, old, and infirm!  I do not want to go like that, at low speed! ::) ::) ::) :D :D ;) ;)

Seriously Lizzie, bad luck girl :(

I believe that's more commonly known as a 'crap magnet' ;)

Anyway - at least you were both in the car at the time, small mercies and all that ;)

Every time someone has hit me it's been a hit 'n run when I'm not around :( Last time was outside my own house, the night before I signed the paperwork to move into my new house! I swear, timing is not my strong suit.. ;D

Anyway.. hope it all gets fixed speedily and you avoid any more OAP encounters ;)

Hey Lizzie,

Two things that strike me here about these comments

"Yes, but that would have been rolling the car at 150mph, which would be far more understandable; you know, my fault, not due to the lunatics, old, and infirm!  I do not want to go like that, at low speed!"

Am I right in thinking that you want to have your car on fire, crash rolling through the Pearly Gates, do a handbrake turn, get out and shout, "Right then where's the bar"  ::)  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D

"Anyway.. hope it all gets fixed speedily and you avoid any more OAP encounters"

If this was death race 2010, how many bonus points would you have gotten for the hit  ::)   :D ;D  ;D

I have been thinking of all the accidents I have been involved in:

Number 1 c.1977  Cortina Estate rammed up the back as stationery in a queue at road works.

Number 2. c.1987 Reversed into bollard when checking my tyres at my local filling station, and dented rear nearside panel.

Number 3. c. 1989  Went forward and dislodged rear bumper of a car that I thought had entered a roundabout.

Number 4. c. 2009 Rammed up the back of my Omega CDX whilst stationery letting a '999' police car out of a junction.

Number 5 Oct 2010 Whilst stationery white van man turns against the side of my Elite's front bumper.

Number 6 Oct 2010 Whilst travelling at 2mph to enter a Sainsbury's car parking space OAP runs forward in his car and rams the nearside of my Elite

Not bad I suppose over 1 million miles of driving, often at high speed on the busiest of Britain's roads!

To add to the actual and to emphasise how my misfortune comes when stationery, or travelling very slowly I will list near misses:

Number 1  c.1978  Massive, fully loaded, rigid wheel base 4 axle lorry comes within an inch of wiping me out when stationery in Ford Cortina estate at a road work queue on a steep hill when his brakes fail to stop him, and he just swings out into a suddenly clear road and, still trying to get his brakes to work, goes past me, and two cars in front before finally stopping parallel to a fourth car!!  He is deathly white as I pass him in my cab, and I am delighted to return home to my 3 lovely children!!

Number 2 near miss: whilst stopped on the hard shoulder of the M20 at 0100, Christmas Day 2005, to change a wheel, a continental 44 tonner appears to go straight through me, with complete blackness, very warm rubber and hot engine smells, with water being sprayed all over me from the hard shoulders cats eyes, as I am pressed into the side of my Toyota Carina II.  Lightness reappears for me to see the artic continuing to travel half way over the hard shoulder!!!  Expect to see my body in pieces, and I am now dead but somehow still seeing, a feeling that last for days (in fact in a way right up to today!!)

So, speed it NOT my problem!!! ::) ::) ::)

You spend a lot of time writing letters while sat in your car, Lizzie...

*twitches*

Sorry.. pet peeve  ;D

Quote
USAGE Be careful to distinguish stationary ('not moving, fixed') from stationery ('writing paper and other supplies').

Anyway .. egads at the hard shoulder incident - I seem to recall someone telling me that 'life expectancy' of someone standing/parked on the hard shoulder is, on average, measured in minutes?  :o

I'm not that easily frightened (apart from by heights.. or spiders.. ;D) but the couple of times I've been stranded on the hard shoulder of the motorway have easily been some of the most frightening times of my life - naturally I scarpered behind the crash barrier ASAP both times.. I can't believe how people can sit in their cars oblivious to the obvious danger?

Well.. I can, you only have to look at how people drive to realise how oblivious to the entire world people can be sometimes!

Hi Lizzie.

Think it must be something to do with East Kent.

Yesterday ,whilst I was working in Canterbury a 09 reg BMW 525 decided to reverse in to me whilst I was parked in a garage getting fuel.

It turned out to be a Doctor, who did apologize and said he couldn,t see due to the low sun,but decided to reverse back anyway.Quite worrying really as that could have so easily have been a child or  person.

Anyway my damage is very minor..he cracked the front Irmscher grille and destroyed the chrome VX v.

Like your experience Insurance company were very quick offering me a hire car and calling today to advise they would be able to collect my car on Monday and get it to the body shop. All seemed abit silly so said I would pop in on Tuesday and see what could be done.

The last time I had a similar problem it turned out that the grille was no longer available from Irmscher in Germany so we will see what fun and games we have on Tuesday..anybody got a good second hand one for sale maybe and go down that route.

Good luck with your repairs

I am trying to pre-emt the issues I will get from the bodyshop saying part is obsolete by buying a good condition second hand grille.

That way I can get them to paint it up and then sort out the financial bits which I am expecting to be in my favour.

One way of reducing these car park shunts would be to have larger car park spaces. It seems to be a modern malaise of planners to cram loads of parking into a given space. That works only if the car park is regularly full. (and everyone is a good driver)

Better would be to have more spaces ANd delineated by a double seperated white line ( a sort of no mans land that allows doors to be opened)

Course it will never happen. We will all have to drive G wiz's or resort to parking a long way away from the entrance (as I do).
