Mind that tree! ;)
Honestly though.. what was the repair of, and how? I want to repair the back bumper on mine (has a little scuff) but I've never actually sprayed up any exterior parts before now.. and I have this feeling a rattle can finish will never look 'right'..

my bumper was cracked, not broken just tiny cracks in the paintwork that had peeled off over time and left the black plastic showing so first was to key the plastic up and surrounding paintwork, repair using a suitable filler, rub the filled area level with bumper, flat it down using a fine grade 1200 wet and dry abrasive paper(aldi toilet roll will also do the trick ;D ),prime using plastic primer, key up again then followed by plenty of filler primer, wet flat the primer untill its really smooth then apply a base coat(bought from ebay) let each coat dry, give it 3 coats, then leave to dry, after its dry coat it in halfords clear laquer, it helps if you have had the can in a bowl of hot water to give the laquer a tempurature to flow better, i also used the daughters hairdryer on the bumper to help it dry as it was cold when i sprayed it, leave the finished job for at least 3 days then wetflat (1800 grade) untill smooth but not too much that you`lle be through the laquer followed by much t cut and elbow power or a polishing mop and compound :y, by the way, take the bumper off or mask lights etc. cost of repair £22 ;D

yes you got it mate, keying up can be done with scotchcloth, (a bit like the rough green layer on your washing up sponges) or you can use 600 grade paper, it really is quite easy, but you do need patience when prepping for the top coat, if the filler isnt rubbed down enough or too much it will look awfull when the final coats go on. any queries just pm me, anyone close and i`ll pop round and help you out :)
having this job done at a bodyshop is an expensive job, by doing the job yourself its satisfying and the car looks much better!! ive got to do the rear bumper when the rain stops so maybe i`ll do a step by step if anyones interesed.

A good 'how to' would be great for us novices.

Well if you're offering to provide the dry garage, beer and nibbles, I'll provide myself!!

could you imagine the state of the paintjob?? omg!!! ;D ;D ;D mind, it wouldnt have a patch on the state we`d be in haha :D

If you do all your spraying in a closed garage ... you won't need the beers! ;D ;D

a little how to would be much appreciated, if it doesn't snow tomorrow i'm going to have that bumper off and in the basement if my result is half as good as your's i'll be suprised especially as we keep the beers in the cellar!! but for that sort of money you've gotta give it a go, i have done a bit of repair work on my transit van!! but more fill and cover stuff for m.o.t!!
