Title: Ice on inside of windows
Post by: gstylebaby on 25 October 2010, 20:14:53
Well i'm just getting fed up of this now last year found the car was getting ice on the inside of the windows (front rear and sunroof) found the passenger foot well padding was soaked so took it out dry'ed it popped it back in and had a fan heater in the car to dry it all out (due to my heaters still not working right and are still not).  Well came out of work last night to go home and yes you guess it frozen again on the inside in all the same place's.  Wish i could find why this is happening.  Got to check the padding again but i know its not that cause last time when i took ot out it made no difference ended up using the wifes car all winter for work and using the omega in the day time only. >:( >:( >:( >:(

If your passenger side carpet was soaked again, it sounds like your scuttle drain is blocked...  This in turn would lead to higher condensation levels in the car, hence the inside of your screen freezing...

It's not a drain Dave, there are two air vents in the drivers side first aid cubbyhole that need to be clear for air to circulate properly throughout the car, otherwise misting becomes a problem  :y

If it's any consolation you are not alone. condensation inside the car is horrendous. Scuttle drain and rear air vents as clean as a whistle. What I see that we have in common is the sunroof. I am led to believe there are drains hoses for this leading down through the boot. Well I can't find them in my saloon, I have removed all boot carpets and can see nothing. So if anyone can enlighten us.

Until then mate its  :'( :'(

You can get a spray that helps to stop glass misting, could be worth a try...

I'll try to photo them tomorrow in the day light, but the drain tubes are there ...... honest.
Driver's side is right at the front of the space behind where the first aid kit lives, just inboard of the rear of the wheel arch.
Passenger side is obviously opposite and is forward of the spare wheel.

I had something similar to this in the past.  Scuttle drain blocked and heavy rain caused water to spill into the cabin, hence wet passenger carpet.

Unblocked the scuttle but still had misty windows; turned out the pollen filter had got soaked and (damp) air was being drawn through.  Changing the filter sorted it, along with cleaning the inside of the windows with Autoglym Car Glass cleaner  :y.

This is more than just misting. this is a pool of water on the windscreen, which then freezes as thick as the ice on the outside.

Yes Andy, and a hand operated water pump in the yard too! My Stepfather made me wash from it every morning whatever the weather :'( Mind you, it didn't bother me too much as my bedcover (brown army blanket) had ice rime on it during the winter anyway & I was always glad to get up & move around just to 'warm up'. I believe they called it Character Building! ::) ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

The sunroof has four tubes (similar size as garden hosepipe), that run one from each corner of the sunroof assembly.
I have only removed the sunroof from an Omega so can't confirm where they empty but I know that on a Cavalier the tubes run down along each side of the windscreen and empty through the floor pan at the back edge of the front wing, the rear drains run down the rear quarters and empty through the boot floor area.

I have a photo of a sunroof assembly which shows the location of the drain.

I've no pictures in 'Photobucket' but have just listed my sunroof on flea bay...
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Vauxhall-Omega-sunroof-/220690127080?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item33622818e8#ht_500wt_1156
Item number is 220690127080, if you need a clearer picture I could take a few snaps and e-mail them to you, if you like.

You can just make out one of the drain outlets in the top left of the picture, it's the white thing located at the corner of the sunroof. Each corner has a drain...

Doesn't mean to say it's not damp, I had the same problem once, after changing the pollen filter.
