Before I start digging, has anyone got name and contact details of Chief Executive of Audi UK. Son is getting the run around with jkerky gearbox - they have had car off and on for weeks in last 4 months or so and are trying everything to avoid putting new gearbox in - it is just a month from initial warranty expiry but Audi dealer put an extra year on last year when he bought it (57 plate 2 litre S Line). I think it is the DSG gearbox.
Another battle looming reminisicent of the issue with the Omega in its last month of 3 year warranty in 2004. To be fair Vauxhall fixed it and extended warranty for a further 2 years.

After some hassle and weeks of investigation by Audi (i.e. trying to avoid the inevitable) new gearbox will be here next week and fitted at local dealer. They say that each gearbox has to be built for each individual car - load of nonsense but just thankful they are going to do the decent thing.
In the meantime he has had the A5 courtesy car again for what will be 4 weeks by the time (for this spell of loan) his A3 is returned.

Glad to hear things are looking up.
I do wonder if that DSG gearbox is complexity for the sake of it. I think everyone I have known with one has had trouble at some point. A mate of mine decided against talking his classic car to Le Mans this year as he was working up to the wire trying to get a few issues solved.
Took his Audi instead and still ended up on a low loader. ;D Problem? DSG box did a "will it blend?" on itself. :(

Do you think that they're just hoping that after all of this he decides he really wants an A5, chops the A3 in and gets an A5 from them? ;)

You are so close to the reality of the situation here - all his mates down the boxing club keep admiring it - I think its a 3 litre and when he has to admit its a loaner it hurts..

Yes on DSG - I did quite a bit of trawling around the Audi sites and there is a whole heap of issues - it appears that many just put up with the lack of smoothness in the gear change and advise that it is the way you drive it - but his was downright dangerous with the hesitation and surge problem

as the ad says sounds just like a golf!
