Well over the last two weeks I have had the nearside rear bottom door corner welded, fitted two front brake pads, with sensors, that I had spare, had fitted 4 x Pirelli PZero Rosso 235/45 ZR 17 for £400 all in, pushed the car through it's MOT with no problems, and,the big news, the n/s rear door repaired under insurance!
The latter of course caused me to flip when the first route I took to repair the door, after the OAP hit it in a Sainsbury's car park, through Claimfast led to some prat of an insurance assessor classing it as "beyond economical repair"!! He quoted that it needed a new door, and even a new n/s overtaking mirror part which hadn't been damaged or involved in the accident, being completely intact!! Total cost they said was £1,700!! :o :o
My own insurance company Royal Sun Alliance then took over the claim and promised it would be repaired by a Nationwide Crash Repair Centre. Today got the car back after some excellent customer care, with the total repair bill, being sent to the third party, standing at £492.17!! No new door or overtaking mirror (as of course not required!!), an excellent finish, and completed on time!!
I am now mounting a complaint through the AA, which they have encouraged me to do, about Claimfast. "beyond economical repair" indeed!!! As I told them on the phone; total nonense and somebody must be on a fiddle somewhere!! ::) ::) ::)

Well done Lizzie :y - good to see the motorist winning for a change and hopefully stick one up the chuff of Claimfast! Many motorists would have just accepted their assessment of beyond economical repair. Lots of decent cars get written off unnecessarily these days in my opinion.

Good news :y

Great news, Liz.....`stuck to your guns and got a nice result! :y

.... as if! ::) ::) ::)
Perhaps someone took a fancy to your car and hoped you accepted their decision to write it off. ::) ::) :y

Thanks all! :y :y :y
Yes Andy I wonder what the motive is behind a garage over (allegedly) inflating an estimate; maybe the road worthy car / parts that is left is the attraction?? Anyway Claimfast have already acted on my complaint, which they say they fully accept and understand, and the management will be liaising with me as they investigate "to see if there are other cases of this type, with customers just accepting the assessors findings". :y :y

Good Result all round Lizzie, well done! :y

I'd be chasing them for costs - £9.25 per hour for wrtiting letters of complaint, couple of hours "researching" [1]
postage, telephone calls, lost time visiting garages, travelling costs.
Should be able to tot it up to £100 ish.
The "litigant in person" rates if it went to court are
40p per mile
9.25 per hour.
+ parking, postage, stationery, printing costs.
(I usually round it to £15 per letter).
If they balk over the costs, then that's ANOTHER letter at £15 (+ research time[1]).
[1] reading oof that is...

At almost £500 it's still a bloody expensive repair, but far more acceptable than the original p take £1700 :y

I couldn't agree more Andy, but I suppose that is the professional rate ::) ::) £303 was for labour!! :o

IIRC I paid £250 +vat to have my bonnet re-painted, and that included the existing (prefacelift) washer nozzle holes welded up.

Apart from the fact they estimated the work to do correctly, I can only say in fairness to them that Nationwide Crash Repair Centre carried out the work to the highest insurance company standards, and insisted with me that they could do nothing else when I tried to ensure they didn't price the job into "beyond economical repair" territory. They also exhibited superb customer care. 8-) 8-)

But Andy .. you probably had it done by a small, efficient firm, possibly even a "one man" operation .. and you didn't get a brand new BMW to drive around in .....
These "Insurance" places have mases of staff and masses of overheads .. not all of which can be charged to the insurance company .. even they are not that stupid !!!

again Nige .. you are quite correct! :y :y :y
They also did a very good job of various other bits of rust spots the previous year. :y

Looks a very good job, did they paint that black section in the rear door shut?

Yes, and it very neat indeed (ignore the splatter of mud that has shown up in the photo!( and I am tempted to get them to do the otherside before that causes me any problems. ;)
