Just back from the MOT and the news is not good
Too sum up its just the rear brake pipes but this is how it reads
001 Nearside rear brake pipe excessively corroded
002 offside rear brake pipe excessively corroded
003 nearside (front to rear) brake house ferrule excessively corroded
004 offside (front to rear) brake ferrule excessively corroded
005 nearside rear brake hose ferrule excessively corroded
006 offside rear brake hose ferrule excessively corroded
007 Nearside rear braking system leaking (BURST ON TEST)
008 Nearside rear brake performance not tested due to leak
Nearside rear rubber mount missing exhaust system not adequately supported.
It looks bad but its just the leak and brake pipes. still gutted though. Cant drive it because it sprung a leak whilst on test :'(
-
hard luck mate, looks worse than it is on paper though, good luck with the repairs :y
-
Not what you need with your impending arrival, but as you say, a lot of detail for 1 problem (exhaust a non-issue, just a new rubber needed)
-

Look at it this way - at least it sprung a leak on the test, rather than with your impending arrival in it!

or worst still just using it normaly. will get it done over the new few days and re book it in next week. The MOT tester said apart from that everything was in good order.

Welcome to the club, mate!
When I put mine in for the test I was quietly confident, but thinking that, if it was going to fail on anything, it might be the front brake discs, as I know they are worn (will be replacing them in the new year).
So I was quite surprised, and not in a nice way, when I was told it was the rear springs and the steering idler!

Blinkin` road salt! :(
What an absolute blessing that the burst happened on the rollers not in traffic! ;)
Rigid pipes are easy and cheap enough to measure/duplicate and have flared at a local motor factors and how about an OOF forum breaker`s car for the hose and exhaust hanger?
;) Keep your chin up Dan......not a 'money-pit' type issue; you`ll soon be back on the road. :y
-
Cheers deb! its not too expensive to get sorted thankfully :y
-
It's good news that such a problem was spotted Dan.
Hope the fix is uneventful. :y
-
It may be worth you having a look at the pipes as often it is surface corrosion which you can clean up with a wire brush then coat with grease/underseal, testers aren't allowed to give them a rub to see,if there is corrosion-they fail ,mine failed on this and after doing the above it passed the last 3 times. Obviously if completely shot renew them!!

Dan, I can whip all those pipes off the MV6 I'm breaking and send them up to you, I'll even sling you a zorst rubber in with them :y

May have trouble getting them off and into the post though Lee... Funny shapes and all that.
I bought a pipe flaring kit a few years back when SWMBO's car failed on a brake pipe for about £20 or so and just knock up a new pipe when needed. The other advantage is that copper is more flexible so easy to work with :y :y
-
I make my own too but I use Kunifer brake pipes as copper are prone to allowing moisture into the system. I learnt that a long time ago when re-piping my 54 Morris Minor ;)

007 Nearside rear braking system leaking (BURST ON TEST) ....
I assume that this MOT station also does repairs. :-/ It does seem rather coincidental :-? :-? :-?
In 30yrs of owning a car I've never had a brake hose burst, they've needed replacing due to being perished, but to burst on a car as old as yours ...... :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/

Did it fall, or was it pushed? :-?

I have seen several pipes burst on test over the years, mainly pipes that are hidden by exhaust shields and the like and mostly on renaults :D

It does seem a coincidence though that Mr MOT man failed most lengths of brake pipe due to 'rust' on a car somewhat newer than mine, and then a pipe just happens to burst on test too? :-? :-? :-?

Having just looked at Dan's profile, his car just looks somewhat newer ::) but is only a year newer ;)
-
From what the tester said (a friend of the family by the way) he was going to fail it anyway on the corrosion but when he did the nearside brake test it ruptured. He said everything else on the car was good and it was just the rear brakes.

Lee you have a PM :y
-
I've got it, let me have a look on this breaker in the morning and I'll PM you back ;) :y
-
cheers lee. ill be online sometime tomorrow aftermoon :y
-
Sorry it failed Dan. As a side note took my daughters 206 for test earlier in the year it too failed on brake pipes and hoses. Tester said hoses wer bad and could burst however even with had push on pedal for a long period it held. Make me wonder about yours. when i took 206 ones off could see braiding beneath rubber but no sign of fluid loss.
-
I hope you get everything sorted Dan and end up with good news! :y :y

Cheers, just frustrating i cant drive it. Lee may have some used pipes / hoses for me so i can get back on the road asap :y i hope ;D ;)
-
I haven't had chance to get under it today, I'm under there tomorrow so will check :y
-
no worries mate, appreciate your help :y

After thinking what to do and as i need it back on the road by wednesday i am getting it repaired where the MOT was done. He is a friend of the family and will look after me price wise. He is coming to get it later with his trailer so should be back on the road by wednesday. :y
Only other thing i may have to do is get a Tech2 on it for the ABS unit. Was mentioned to me by pete that if air gets in to it i will need a tech2 to address this?
-
My Vaux-Com will run the pump to bleed it through. The pipes on this breaker aren't much better than yours Dan, probably best to get new anyway.

Cheers mate! Yes better to go new then. I take it i will have to get that done before it goes back in for MOT?

That is a good decision Dan as it will put the car back on the road with the least hassle :y :y :y
I remember well clambering around under my old Toyota Carina II replacing the brake pipes, which I did in a day, but although I love being under cars I could have done something a lot easier in comfort! ::) ::) ::)
If you are getting it done for a good price (did mine for £80 all in) then you are on a winner! 8-) 8-) 8-)

Not really, the air in the ABS will only be noticable when the ABS is activated, as long as you brake gently there won't be any noticable difference. But, having said all that, get it done ASAP as you don't want to be rear ending someone do you?
-
ok mate i will get it done as soon as its back on the road :y
-
Going back in for MOT wednesday no work is completed so fingered crossed this time :y
