Title: Mayo on oil filler cap....not omega
Post by: lou on 09 December 2010, 17:22:31
Hi, just looked at a nice little corsa 1.2 16 valve for the  step daughter. Notice a substantial amount of mayo on filler cap and inside one of the cam lobes, also oil on dipstick seems very browny color but no mayo. The car as been standing for a while and done hardly any miles in last couple of months. Any ideas? Buy or walk away?

Could be condensation, as it's done hardly any miles. Run it for a while and see if the pipes are rock hard, then do all other checks like dipstick etc.

If the "hardly any miles" have been short journeys then it could just be condensation.
Though if the miles are ten, twenty at a time it could point to a problem.

The 1.2 have a regular fail on the waterpump gasket which is part of the timing chain backing plate. Not a hard but not a pleasant job.

how's the coolant looking?

give it a good run, offer to pay for fuel if you have to and get it good and hot
