Although I have been driving an Omega for about 6 years now, i havent until this week done a journey of much more than 100 miles. I have driven two journeys of just over 300 miles this week, and I must say I am disappointed in the level of comfort of the drivers seat. On both journeys my lower back was in some discomfort After about 150 miles. I tried adjusting the lumbar support, but that made it worse. The least worst setting was with the least support on the adjustment.
Also had discomfort in shoulders, neck and left leg - maybe I,m just finally falling apart. ::)
It felt as though something at the lower part of the seat back was digging into my back. The heater pad ? :-/
Would add that these are standard cloth seats.
Just to be a tad more controversial, I can remember driving my old Senator (with leather) to Stranraer (approx. 450 miles) with only a brief fuel stop, and I felt as fresh as a daisy when I got there. Could happily have turned round and driven straight back where I came from. Although I was 10 years younger then ;)

possibly weak or broken springs in the back of your seat, the rear pocket section can be taken off. self tappers at bottom corners, levers upwards.
should allow you to see the offending bit :y
-
You think they are uncomfortable, I have borrowed my mums Pug 206, now that is uncomfortable.......... ::) ::) ::) reliable though... :'(
-
A car as big as the mig is the only one I can get comfy in, even 'normal' sized cars like a Mondeo I find are too small, I'm only 6'1" so not massive. My old Senator was the same. I could sit in my mig all day, and have done.
-
I'd go with vauxfan's suggestion of a failed spring or some other problem. I've had Senators too & would consider them to be comparable with each other (apart from an Omega Elite seat not going low enough ;), & only one lumbar suport ;D) I've spent all day in my Omega a few times and have had no problems what-so-ever ....... & my back can be a bit iffy at the best of times. :y

without looking i would guess its a facelift? reason i say this is when i bought the 2.2dti estate i did just over 500 miles in it and thought this is strange its not comfortable? however on my old faithful i have done several trips to spain and from spain to england over 1300 miles each time nonstop!! and never had a problem,
I think its the lumbar suport in the facelift is not as good as the prefacelift? but i could be wrong!!!
-
All my Omegas were Lovely on a long journey, no back problems at all :y
-
i find the seats excellent, done trip to German border in a day with no issues!

I've done wiltshire to Hannover in one go without any discomfort. As has already been mentionned I think your seats may be knackered
-
Just brought the project car back from England and we did about a 1000 miles on the last day. I thought the leather seats were not as comfortable as the cloth seats in the other car.
-
every year in summer time I travel more than a 1000 miles and never feel any problem.. mine is pre-facelift ;D
-
I have been uncomfy sometimes but it does help to adjust a bit on the seat height now and again just to vary the position slightly.
Facelift cloth seats by the way.
-
if your on the large side, or previous owners have been, the lubar support is prob broke, whip the seat back off and have a look.
was totally collapsed on my old mv6

I must say I drove a 206 for 435 miles in one day and thought it was very comfortable, had no uncomfort at all.. :o

For me MV6 seats I find more comfortable than the elite seats. . not sure why maybe because MV6 seats are more firm? There shouldn't be anything sticking in you through the seat though Albs! check it out mate :y

Did 350 odd miles up to scotch corner then over to Cumbria, then drove home the next day.
No problem at all with Elite leather, and my back is buggered.
Sat in a few omega cloth seats, pre fl mostly, no good for me.
-
Suffering back problems, I'm normally the first to moan about poor comfort in a car.
But, I've done:
South of France (900m) in a day, only stopping for fuel and driver swaps, in minifacelift MV6
Brackley to Berwick-upon-Tweed (300m) non stop in minifacelift tractpr Elite with cloth seats
Brackley to Snowdonian (300m) non stop in a leather clad Facelift Elite
Never, ever had any discomfort issues. I am the sort of person who suffers for days after doing a 1hr stint in Focus etc.
I think thats the reason I kept the MV6 for 7yrs.

I think my elite is the most comfortable car I have ever owned and there's been a few

try this - the guide to comfortable seating....
the key to comfort is a constant loading of the upper leg against the seat base, in that way, stiffness and back trouble is avoided.
step 1. Ignore the backrest position, adjust the seat in both front/rear position and angle so that your feet are on the pedals and there isn't a gap between your thighs and the seat base, particularly at the front. You'll find that you'll be having the seat a bit more "up" a the front than you're used to.
step 2. Adjust the backrest angle so that you can reach the steering wheel easily. Again, this will be qute a bit further angled forward than you're used to, but you'll get used to it - and your risk of back troule will be reduced.
tought to me by a consultant back specialist whilst I was working on a Volvo/met. Police project.
-
That's my only gripe so far in changing the TD estate for a Signum.
The seats.... it's like sitting on a park bench compared to the armchairs in the Omega.
There must be a problem with yours somewhere

Its a facelift, only covered 101,000 miles. I am if anything a bit on the skinny side (which could be something to do with it).
Previous owner was johnnycboy - hardly a big lardy bloke, although he only had it for about a year. Dont know who owned it for the first 90,000.
There is definitely something in the seat pressing into my lower back. I shall investigate a bit further when the weather allows.
2woody,s advice looks interesting - I will try that in the near future. Probably no 3 figure trips coming up in the forseeable future though. The only longish distance trip I used to do regularily was across to Norn Irn, but its a heel of a lot cheaper and quicker to fly nowadays, so dont do that one anymore.
I used to do it several times a year in the Chevette HS - it was great fun to do in those days, but I was always in rather agony at the other end.
-
Setting the seat is covered in the owners manual, but similar to 2woodys post iirc? :-?
If it's still uncomfortable after setting up then maybe time for some elite or mv6 leather?
-
Elite leather is top of my wish list. When funds allow, and if I keep the car. ;)
-
sounds like the seat is gone ! agree with the leather tho it looks the dogs but and is great for cleaning spills from the kids but cloth is more comfortable. ;D
-
You dont have them adjusted correctly!
-
The seats in my DTi are the most comfortable seats i've sat in :)
-
I find the seats in both the Elites (Cloth on the DTi and Leather on the V6) are very comfortable and never have a problem with them except the cloth ones are better first thing in the morning! I do have them tilted as far back as possible (front edge up high, rear low) so that the front edge supports my thighs - i'm about 6ft 2 ish.
When I drive Jane's Estate (Leather CD seats) I don't find them as comfortable when driven for a long distance, but they are better than plenty of other cars i've driven.

Do you find you start to run out of head room if sun roof fitted? Sounds similar set up to mine.
Keep hankering for a reach adjustable steering column personally.

It's close but I keep me hair shaved!
Yes agreed, if you could pull the wheel back an inch it would be just that little bit better.

Yes short hair is my solution too. But not the previous owners, going by the grey hair in the head lining.

Eww!
That reminds me of the first 300ZX I went to look at - a suspicious stain on the base of the passenger seat and what looked like a stiletto heel hole in the dashboard :o
-
Mine seem plenty comfy and i reguarly do 300 miles a day, having said that i have just bought some MV6 leather as a bit of a treat :y
