...where's best?
-
Thought you were swaying the prins route?
-
Yes I was, but after some double checking with Kevin over the weekend, we agreed my current car displays some similar symptoms re lag in stock form on petrol. Ie lift off from wot gives a slight lag in the over run, so basically I can't justify the prins cost given it's not likely to sort a problem that's partially present on petrol anyway.
Although I could not re produce the very slight lag on gear changes while Kevin was in the car data logging via tech 2, slight lag from lift off from wot was defiantly there on my current petrol only car :-?. Suprising.
-
Should ad, no faults, it has current gear box software etc, fuel trims fine, nout wrong that tech 2 can find and there car was definitely quicker than my old car on the drive back from auction with Josh driving it. Yet it has very slight lag on lift off and some gear changes under certain circumstances. Although it's probably on its original ATF at 60k miles. :-?
-
Very interesting find Chris... Perhaps we're chasing a fault that is "standard"? :-/ :-/
I would advise you to try looking for a supplier who sends "Magic Injectors" with the kit as they seem to be much quicker than the current ones. Also, you want a Vaporiser capable of 250/270+ BHP IMO, so that it's not being used at it's maximum output.
Sure James managed to find a supplier on the bay of E :-/
-
thanks Paul, plenty if stag with red injectors and weedy vapourisors, no magic ones but i'll look further tonight on gaybay.
Ta.

Have a look here Chris, i'm sure you can 'mix & match' stuff in the kits re:injectors with a slight price adjustment? :y

Lack of support I think? Guess he's still around, moved on to bigger things maybe? Certainly difficult to get hold of.
...but I think Phil has missed something certainly, should there be a link in your post Mr Rich? :)

He was always very, very difficult to get hold of. Outstanding service when you actually managed to get through to him, he certainly knew his stuff too. But fact you can go weeks without being able to speak to him was a bit problem, I ended up paying more as I got parts from elseware, but they were always available

I'm still awaiting a call-back from October ::)
I recalibrated mine last week, and now I have bad lag. WTF.

So where did you 2 get yours?

One thought, which I think we talked about, was fitting stag, see how it goes, and if there is a lag issue fit prins injectors.

Ah, did I include you on some of that info I got about the lag, and preferred injectors?

Valtek should be OK in an Omega, but something else (escapes me) would be preferred, and to richen the map at the lag point...

From looking at the petrol only data log Kev did on mine over the weekend, re throttle actual position v pedal position, the throttle is never shut fully in as much that the petrol ecu manages the over run by feeding air to smooth it out on dbw engine. Maybe the LPG fuel feed is not keeping up with the DBW throttle settings from the petrol map on the over run...if you see what I mean?
But again, dejahvou, we have discussed this before, although I had forgotten your info, you did tell me.
So, stag kit and fiddle with injectors if needed. A plan ?

Thought had crossed my mind but throttle remains wide open during upshift and torque reduce is done by ignition retard.
Also, throttle certainly stays open on a non-DBW.

Well, points to a tuning issue then? :-/
Kevin
-
So where did you 2 get yours?
Front end kit from eBay, tank and rear end kit Tinleytech. :)
Got 90L tank for price of 80L ;D

So thinking two differant issues possibly? we all have the gear change lag to a certain degree, but do the the throttle cable cars have the lift off lag as well? thinking not, although unsure what effect the icv will have on the non dbw cars at the relevant engine speeds?

I'm, thinking we need a selection of cars and a vacant airfield to figure out if we're all getting the same issue.

Keihin injectors are used by Prins
They are expensive and difficult to obtain

£250 from prins approved installers. .....so it would be nice to know they cured the problem before parting with a lot of cash.

He recommends Hana 2000 injectors, and implies the lag signifies a lean condition and to richen up via the 3d map :-?
Google reveals fa re those injectors :-/

The second response seems to boil down to "You have to keep recalibrating because the injectors slowly wear out and the system isn't clever enough to figure that out" ...
The more I read about gas, the more I think the whole thing seems ... a bit of a bodge?
Then again, that's my general opinion on piggyback ECUs on top of OBD-II compliant ECUs in general (hence the standalone on the MR2) - you're always fighting the stock ECUs self-learning, it seems.
[edit] Man, I just re-read the three posts I made and they're all incredibly negative. Someone find me a stock of happy pills, stat!
-
Rossko is assuming the throttle closes during gear change, which it doesn't.

Well, yes and no. The alternative is a second dedicated ECU for LPG, of course, or a purpose designed Bi-Fuel ECU.
The bodge then becomes making the new ECU work with all the other systems in the car, so CAN comms, both standard and proprietary to Bosch with the ABC/TC, autobox and the various other signals to the MID, instuments, climate control, etc.
With a "piggy back" ECU you have a nice simple interface to hook up to; a pulse for each cylinder with duration proportional to fuel demand. In theory, as long as you apply the corrections to compensate for temperature and pressure of the LPG the "learning" mechanisms in the main ECU work to your favour on LPG too.
The only slight issue you then have is that the ignition map is set up for petrol where ideally you'd want a little more advance on LPG and the transient corrections assume a liquid fuel and "wall wetting", which is not the case with LPG.
I suspect the second of the above is a factor in this lag we are seeing.
So, a bodge? Perhaps, but between a rock and a hard place. :-/
Kevin

True, I forgot about that pesky CANbus thing, always complicating issues.. talking to the rest of the car is always the hard part, I suppose.

I got low on LPG at the weekend thanks to my usual garage running out, and ended up paying 78.9ppl :o.
I think I'd be waiting until the spring to see if the price of LPG becomes more sensible, or at least stops rocketing, to be perfectly honest. Payback from a conversion would be a good 2 years for me at those sort of prices. Then again, I'm not burning much petrol at the moment so maybe I'm only seeing one side of the story. :-/

I'll be looking at LPGing mine too but definitely nearer Q2 next year

While keen to miss the vat hike, it most likely won't be fitted until feb at the earliest the way things are going, been trying to do plugs and cam covers for the last week...poxy weather!

Most expensive this way is 71.9p, though the cheaper stations around these parts are hiking 5p a time :o
Is it the same gas as heating LPG? If so, I guess the cold snap has hiked the price?
-
I was keen to buy before the price hike, though in reality, what are we talking, £15-£20?
Or do I rip the kit off the MV6 and retire it?
-
It's the most sensible option IMO. Depends how much you love the mv6? So I guess a new kit then?

Plus the MV6 is fully certified and logged with DVLA and insurance... ...now its actually legal..........

MV6 or Irmscher / Bilsten suspension on the Elite then....
...and not forgetting 'slight' modification to a set of MV6 seats onto Elite bases to retain the memory function.

Straight swap re suspension iirc?

Differences between pre-face and facelift MV6 suspension IIRC?

The MV6 is staying. Accept it. Move on.
The Elite... ...to quote Sarah Connor... "The future is not set" :-X

Yeah, think he has face lift shocks, or something, to go with front irmscher springs though...?
