One of my step grand-daughters who lives an hour away from us has an X reg. Renault Laguna with I believe a 1.6l petrol engine.
On starting yesterday, it fired up fine but then cut out completely, and repeated this each time she tried. I don't know enough to pinpoint the problem on the phone apart from suggesting fuel starvation or lack of ignition spark, but it seems a local garage told her on the phone that it was the immobiliser misbehaving.
I don't know whether the immobiliser allows startup before disabling the car. Can anyone suggest a cause or whether this is likely to be an honest appraisal?
Cheers,
Bill.

try locking it and unlocking it with the key fob another common fault is the pick up sensor on top of the gear box, ::) :y

My 1999 2.0ltr Laguna did this & after I had checked all the other parts of the system, I finally got to removing the immobiliser ring from around the ignition barrel & checking the connections (very, very thin wires be careful!) & this was the source of the problem for me. It is a known fault on these cars & I found the fix from an Internet search which led me to a Renault Forum, unfortunately I can't now remember which one :-[
Found it! ;D
