Title: LPG on the M4 ?
Post by: albitz on 12 December 2010, 23:13:03
Weather permitting, I am taking a trip to Pembrokeshire next week. I shall need to be filling up with LPG somewhere around the Severn bridge I would think. Does anyone know if any of the services on the M4 somwhere around there have LPG ?
I could look at  the maps og LPG stockists but I dont trust them tbh. One of them lists my local garage as a stockist and he closed down almost 10 years ago.

Don't know about the welsh end, but if you need it, m4, junction11 take south exit to basingstoke, 500yards from the junction turn left left at the lights, bp round the corner has LPG.

Don't bother with the services between 11 and 12 they never seem to have any and it's expensive.

Might help, ya never know. :-?

They kept telling me they had run out, not likely as they never had any in the first place afaict. ...  And the Burger king always shuts early  :-X

I find Petrolprices.com seem to be the best web service for LPG on a long journey.

If they list it on that site, it'll be there, but they miss off far too many LPG sites, due to the way they get their data - if nobody has purcahsed that fuel on a fuel card in the last 5 days, it drops it...

Tbh, Ive never had that problem, there a lot better than the lpg web sites, I tend to stick with shell and morrisons on petrolprices.com and try and avoid the BP ones wgich always seem  to be out of stock. Maybe Ive just been lucky.  :y

One off Junction 2, its about 5 min drive from the junction. Its a Texaco. Cheapest by long shot is Asda High Wycombe but thats a 15 min blast up A404 from junction 8 to M40, on the upside its generally almost 10p per litre cheaper than most  :o - But not sure if miles would pay for itself  :-/

I was there few weeks ago was 58.9  :y

If Albs is coming from Essex direction he can get off M25 onto M40 and then drop down onto the M4 at J8 after going to ASDA at Wycombe and it is about the same distance to get to J8 M4 going this way as it would be if he went M25 M4 to J8   :y

Another good LPG one I use all the time, which isn't always listed is Shell just off M1 / M25 junction about 2 mins out of your way. M25 come off J21a, M1 come off J6.

Google: AL2 3EH or Google Maps

I have trouble finding LPG in mid-Hertfordshire anyway, none at the big Sainsbury's in London Colney today (just off M25). None two days ago at Shell by Luton Airport (and pump price was 72p!!)  This Shell garage (AL2 3EH) was the only one I could find that had some in stock today at ~noon.

As an aside, is LPG more difficut to locate than a couple fo years ago?  The garage that did my VXR8 conversion in Hertford has stopped selling it and Tesco at Olding Corner, by the Galleria on the A1M has stopped too.  Just my experience?

Not that I've noticed... Admittedly there are places shutting down but I have noticed that the new services on the A12 (the exit for Colchester United's Footie Ground) is a BP which does LPG :y

Unfortunately the price has rocketed in the last month, increasing by at least 12-13% at most places, and this is before the Government rises take place :o >:( I don't see petrol/LPG as such an attractive route to take for my next vehicle :'(

79.9 ppl for LPG there iirc Paul - which is just taking the p**s.

I feel the same, prices have risen dramatically recently, and I feel I have left it a bit late before I got on the LPG bandwagon.
It looks to me like the bubble has almost burst tbh.
Unless things change it looks like a little diesel next time.

LPG is used for domestic heating, and price is based purely on supply v demand. Like heating oil, that has gone from 42ppl to over double that as soon as the cold snap started at the start of December.

I hope that, come the spring, prices will ease again.

Hmm, got me thinking now, Im paying 30 notes for a 13kg Calor Gas butane refill, and 69p a litre for Autogas.

Now where's those spare pipes I had.
