Title: An Over Fuelling Range Rover
Post by: Darth Loo-knee on 27 December 2010, 18:02:14
As a few may know I have a 4.6 P38 Rangey :y

I have done alot of work on it in between other work but the Ode Girl when I took her for an MOT failed on "Being Off The Scale".... it was that strong my eyes started to water and the MOT man asked me to turn it off   ;D :o
I wondered why I was only getting 9.3 mpg  :o £60 of fuel in one day  ;D :D ::)

Anyway my volt meter into the ecu found that both O2 (lamba sensors) were not working.. I suppose the anti freeze from when the head gaskets went did that :( £300 lighter for new ones and I was getting 19.4 down the D road at 85mph so a great saving ;D ;D ;D ;D
I saw a sort of glowing then dimming of the odometer plus the lights when I turned them on, so checked to see the battery was charging properly which it was but slightly over charging too.... so then went to have the regulator checked and replaced...
Now running like a dream :y

Until the next time  ;D ;D :-*

Thats what it said in the computer anyway, I have an Auto 2.5 Disco to do and have been told they dont return brilliant mileage back but are a bit more reliable. . . was thinking of keeping one or the other, prefer the look of the Rangie though   :y

Sounds good Daz, how do you find reliability in General?

Thinking of Rangie or 4x4 of some sort here if these Winters continue

as long as the price does not increase with current diesel prices even on pure oil will be a viable option.(ssshhh)

I've had my P38 4.6 for just over 4 years. On a long rung I've had 20mpg and towing the caravan 18mpg.
The average around town is 15mpg.
Worth it's weight in gold in the recent snow-I had a family emergency and shaved 2 hours off a journey by going through country lanes with 6-8 inches of snow.

I must say-touch wood-that the only things I have changed are tyres, exhaust and shock absorbers.

The air con stopped working a few months ago-the insulation on the bonnet wore through the pipe!

Apart from that it's been fine.
The wifes Omega, however, is a far more stable tow car.

Steve

£60?
How much are air assisted shocks on an elite estate?

I was told something similar myself about the airbags, but I must confess I don't see what the fuss was about. You can get parts very cheap if you go to the right places. I was also told it is easier to put springs on and do away with the airbags. .what a load of tosh, to swap an airbag, half an hour tops done, don't see the problem. If though the airbag blows and Mr/Mrs Owner don't renew it, the pump is running more than it should. . This then become an expensive job, and so cost saving to replace with springs.

Air bags are easy to replace-you can replace the whole air system including the pump and ecu for less than it costs to convert to springs.
