Title: Never trust previous owners
Post by: Hannah Judes Dad on 04 January 2011, 08:09:02
Last week myself and Agemo replaced my starter motor and aux belt, all went well we thought.I was surprised to find the previous owner had included a new vx aux belt as the exsisting one 'squeeked a bit sometimes when cold',fair enough I thought. We looked at the belt and thought it's a bit short so salvaged the one off my 'spares' car, fitted it and all was well. You guessed it folks the vx belt was short as the a/c pump is seized so it was to bypass the pump altogether. After cursing a bit and fitting the shorter belt I now have a non air con car that works.Looks like I will be salvaging the air con unit from my spares car when the weather gets better, getting it regassed and then fitting the longer belt.Bugger.

Yeah, I've learnt some lessons. I have to say though I would never do that to anyone. I know they say self praise is worthless, but I'm honest so couldn't live with myself for having an innocent person over

I'm not condoning it but even the earliest are at least 8 years old, thats why they are cheap and they are going to have faults. You need to check a car over carefully when buying  ;)

Thankfully I have got a 'spares' car so I will take the pump off that one (as it spins freely by hand),get the system regassed and fit the longer belt.Well it sounds like a good idea to me.I think  :-/

I have bought my Omega around two years ago.
After few days of driving I have realized than I have to replace head gasket. Then after few days gearbox start playing up.
The thing is than my car was check by my mechanic before I bought it.
He is not my mechanic any more. :-X
