I dont suppose its a "safe" engine ? One for sale nearby which the cambelt has snapped. Just wondered if it might be an easy fix.

pass! but engines rarely are these days. :-/

Had a look in "that other place", apparently bent valves are a certainty. :(

yeah, hadnt been there in a long time, but its still there. ;)
My mate has an 03 1.2 punto which is a "safe" engine, which is just as well. Its done 131000 on the original belt. :o ::)

I suppose I should change the belt & tensioner on my 'new' TD Astra. I've had it a couple of months and know nothing of the history of the belt. :-? Its predecessor was on the road for 3 years & 40 000miles on the belt I bought it with ...... & I knew nothing of its history either. :-X

freind of mine has one cam sensor gone on it afew times. stops engine dead Tigra 1.4, apart from that she likes it.

Good little engines, not many faults either.
But yes, cambelt failure on a 16V = bent valves.
Still, if its cheap, its not that hard a job to do.

Thanks. :y.............its a 1998, so probably not worth paying a couple of hundred quid for it, and then maybe spending another couple of hundred on it. ;)
