Title: my replacement for the omega
Post by: millwall on 03 January 2011, 15:27:29
my omega had to go as saving to buy a new house  so now ive got a 2004 mg zs   not many peoples favourite car but ive always liked them  and being a 1.8 its cheap to run and insure its quite nippy and the handling is excellent  heres a couple of pics  and its only done 57k with full history and mls head gasket

But what is the situation with spare parts Millwall?

I have heard there are some problems with that, and thus prices of Rovers and all it's derivatives have all slumped :'(

far from it lizzie parts are easy to get from any motor factors and plenty of specialist websites like rimmer bros  the price of rovers dropped when they shut but they have gone back up  partially i think to people realising that parts are stil being made and readily available :y

I had a couple of (diesel) 400's that shape. Both very good cars.

That 1.8, you have to scream the nads off it to get the best from it.

A surprisingly good cruiser - and the HGs aren't as big an issue as everyone says BUT YOU MUST ENSURE COOLANT NEVER RUNS LOW!

Lizzie - Rover parts are well catered for, although some genuine parts are a bit pricey.  Pattern market has most things covered. Never struggled to get parts for our Rover 25, although plastic mouldings usually mean going 2nd hand or egay.

Although the biggest Rover forum isn't a huge amount of use unless you are welding baked bean tins on the exhaust, fitted an unsuitable body kit or fitting a mega-super-chav bongo machine stereo...

just been to look at one in the same colour but with the 2.5 engine always liked the look of them seem to be a lot of car for the money

I can do an Omega one with my eyes shut (well, almost), but the KV6 one looks a PITA to change both cambelts.

Early KV6 engines had a (relatively deserved) reputation (with HGs), possibly slightly exagerrated due to the 'K Series' thing. Later ones are pretty good. All 45s (and 75s) will have the newer KV6.

it is a pita tb  which is why garages charge anything from 500 to 1000 pounds to do the job :o

Told you I'd never done one ;D

Does look more complex than the GM one, but then I guess the GM one looks difficult to some, with having to remove intake system and SIA.

Guess like many jobs, once you actually get cracking, its not so bad :y

i did one of these recently, what slowed me up was the cost of the alignement kit (approx £250 spondolicks)however if you happen to have a cad system, cnc punch, cnc brake press etc then you can make your own.

the only reason i got involved with it is because of the stories i heard about" how difficult" it was. it was long winded yes, but difficult...no

After owning three Omega estates I`m not looking forward to the day when I have to find something else....I don`t think there is anything with such a large usable load area....maybe a Volvo V70 but its still not as big inside.

yes would agree with that pete  but tb is right most of the users are only interested in modding and adding silly shiny bits to their cars  and the general feel and banter is nowere near as good as on here  luckily theres a lot of members on here with a wide knowledge on different makes :y

I take it that they are front wheel drive, not sure as never really taken much notice of them,  but it does look nice.

The bloke across the road has one and it used to be nice and quiet. His dad is a fitter where i work but he now spends most of his time working on trailers  ;D after one or two expensive incidents involving Mercedes truck engines, dad offers to service the car for him, son accepts offer. Result ?  he now has the noisiest diesel car on the estate and is competing with China in the pollution race (i think he's winning) sounds like he's left half the toolbox in the engine, painful to listen to on a really cold morning  ;D

The diesel version of this is something I have considered, indeed is in my ebay search at this very moment, was thinking of a cheap 200 or 400 as a run around for work... :) :)
