Title: It's new gearbox time then! Ahhhh :-(
Post by: Diamond Black Geezer on 13 January 2011, 08:59:03
Well, after running like a stabbed rat, now the accelleration has collapsed to Morris Minor levels, plus autobox warning on MFD we topped up the gearbox oil, which helped with the warning, now taken 15mins to appear, though the accelleration is still terrible.

Cant think what else to try, really, when one considers cost/time/feasibility I think its cut losses and replace the AR25 time. Before I do, and go lookling for someone with a decent box they can give me (someone who has recently chipped their Diesel and replaced their '25 for a '35+) anyone able to chip in their opinions?

Ta all,

DBG

PS I havent put this as a help request, as Im really pretty much decided, its mullered, its more a 'take a vote chaps/chapesses' thing!

How do you know it's the gearbox?

What diagnostic steps have been taken? ;)

Mr Geezer. I struggled for years with poor performance on my 2.5. It was like it was always in limp mode. The day I decided to give up and break it, I tried jiggling all the connections on relays etc near the battery after someone suggested the "blue connector" on another thread . That helped immensely but came too late...........

maybe worth a try on yours. In fact maybe discon the battery and pull and refit them all.

Mr Geezer. I struggled for years with poor performance on my 2.5. ....

Saw an interesting case of "poor performance" the other night on an Omega, the owner of which shall remain nameless.

No obvious signs of anything wrong in the live data. No fault codes. Owner suggested I drive it when I said it all looked fine. 3.2 pulling with all the urge of a Smart Fortwo but without the whiplash as it changes gear.

The problem? Air intake pipe to the bottom of the air filter box was collapsing under load. :y

Hey chaps,

Well thanks for a good fair few replies to go though.

Ok. The symptoms are a TD Elite Auto (ignore my avatar saying CDX V6, THIS is a TD Elite Im talking  :))

After a quick rag on a test drive all was well, actually pulled damn well for a Turboweasel. The same for several weeks.

Now over the last week or so, its as if (speaking from the perspective of a manual driver) the 'clutch is slipping'. Its accelerating like a zeppllin, and taking about three thousand revs to get it moving at any rate, probably at about that at 50mph, and wont go into 4th gear. Also wouldnt go into Drive all the time. Autobox warning on mfd, of course.

After a 'box oil topup (which was low, maybe a litre went in) the autobox warning took longer and longer to come on after startup, eventually taking 15mins to come on. Drive mode now works, and Performance is still 'leisurely' as the car mags say, But to my mind, I would have thought a catastrophic box failure would have resulted in one gear not working, or a big cloud of oily smoke and broken cogs! But then I dont claim to be a Merkanick.

So by the sounds of a couple of helpful posts, all may not yet be lost...?

Further comments of a non-sexual nature, as Im only young, would be greatly appreciated  8-) ::) :D

Thanks again.
