Title: electrics issue, on my bora :(
Post by: Danny on 17 January 2011, 15:36:31
mod please move if its in the wrong place

basically my bora isnt recognising that my driver's door is closed, therefore the kerb light on that door and the interior lights wont go out

just wondering if anyone knows whether the electrics setup is the same on every car regarding the doors closing and the interior lights going out!!

i've had to turn them all off manually and take the bulb off the door for the sake of my battery!

if anyone has any ideas (bora forum not speaking my language!!) then thanks in advance!

Look for a push button type switch in the area of the hinges.

Yeh, check for a knackered push switch or shorting wire.

Some VW's used a rather shite setup where the switch was either part of the catch plate or the check strap so it may not be overly obvious at first glance (the former got damaged easily).

No direct experience with that car, but I guess the door switch in the shuts by the hinges is a good place to start?

will have a look tomorrow when i'm free

bora forum are pointing to allsorts of wiring in a box that controls all the interior lights, windows, sunroof, all that lot, but i really think it's clearly not that, they're all working exactly as they should, just not recognising the door as being closed!

from memory, the doof light switch is on the back/lower edge of the door.

it appears after extensive research, it's a door-to-pieces job :(
