Title: Cracked windscreen
Post by: Omega_Dan on 18 January 2011, 11:18:41
Coming back from Dudley on the M6 stone hit the very left side of my windscreen and has put a nice 4 inch crack in it.

A Cost i could do without at the moment!

Cant feel the crack with my finger nails but will defo fail the MOT in December! another £65 Insurance Excess i reckon just before next MOT so long as it doesnt get any worse in the meantime.

I have put the tax disc over it as its bugging me whenever i look at it  ;D ;D

I had a massive crack in mine back in November, unfortunately I wasn't fully comp so didn't have the fall back of an insurance excess. I was absolutely bricking it at the thought of a possible cost of replacement.

Managed to get an excellent condition screen for £30 second hand from the scrappy; paid a window fitter £50 to take it out of the scrap car and put it in mine - not a bad job for £80 really !!

I think that depends on whether insurance is paying and whether you get a pattern screen. (ignoring auto wipers)

Just had one fitted on the DTi. They've fitted a genuine GM one (same as removed) presumably because of the rain sensor for the wipers....

The crack on mine went right across the screen from one side to the other  :-[
