Title: Kia Rio hand brake seized

Hi all..

any one know the best way to release a seized hand brake on a 2000 kia rio, seems the o/s wheel wont move and cant move the car... hasnt been used for some time... the hand brake was left on !! doh !!

make sure the car is in gear and release the handbrake,take a hammer and give the rear brake backplate a good couple of clouts being careful not to hit wheel cylinder or brake pipes,once its released you need to strip and clean/replace parts as required

I'd be careful hitting the backplate... It my well be quite thin ;)

Personally I'd take the wheel off and give the drum a few taps from all directions with a soft faced hammer :y

That method never let me down when called out to seized handbrakes in the past

I'd be inclined to try a kettle or 2 of boiling water first....
