Title: lpg tank
Post by: ffcgary1 on 26 January 2011, 17:47:27
Hi all, this mainly directed at the lpg experts on here, so here goes,
My Jeep Cherokee is converted to run autogas and has a 50ltr cylinder tank in the boot, and frankly the range on this gas gussler is pants, my question is, what is involved in swapping the tank for a larger capacity tank, obviously there is the tank its self but will the pipework be cut and run to that tank and will there/or should there be a bit of slack that can be used if needed, and will the fitting screwed into the tank be universal to all tanks. As far as i know it is a stacko tank, i look forward to all your thoughts, over to you.
Gary. :y

Gary, changing the tank is easy enough but...

You will almost certainly need to extend the pipework (both fill and feed) as I doubt you'll find enough slack and I think joints are frowned upon inside the vehicle (although I may be wrong) :-/

The certificate, if you have one, will become invalid as you've changed the tank ;)

Perhaps an option would be to fit a second tank? That's what I did on my Rangie ;) Although, of course, you'll still be joining, Teeing actually, pipes they can be done outside the vehicle. Oh... And the certificate will, again, become invalid ;)

Probably Copper TBH. Is your tank in the boot or underslung?

Just spotted that in your initial post :-[ :-[

TBH, it depends how much you're looking to spend. ISTR that there are some Jeep specific tanks available for sticking underneath :-/

Twin tanks sounds like a good idea to me if the spare is external, stick that loose in the boot and second tank in place of the spare.

spare tyre is in the boot bolted to the side next to the rear most window, 50ltr cylinder tank bolted to the floor of the boot behind rear seats, petrol tank slung underneath the boot in the centre. There is a 1/2/1/2 tank availible but is only 20 gallon petrol and 20 litre gas capacity :(
Would like to put a 90/100 litre tank in the boot if pos, boot space not an issue as it is mainly used for off road duties only, so provided that i can find a tank that will fit the space between tyre and vehicle side thats my prefered route.
