Title: Price of scrap metal?
Post by: UrbanFox on 17 January 2011, 13:12:34
Just been quoted £150 per tonne for scrapping a car - this sounds a little low?

Whats the going rate in your area?

Last summer, £30 for the shell and drivetrain - but that was collected.

I know our local scrapyard offers £80 for a car if you deliver it to them...

Sounds good, and dont waste your time filling the car up with dead battery's to increase the weight, as lead is good at the moment at about £350 per ton.
 ;)

Just out of curiosity are cats (not the feline ones) and alloys worth much these day as scrap?

I got £67 EACH for V6 cats last week.

Dont know about alloys, but the car has to have wheels to be towed to the scrapyard!

Thats right - its because brisbane produce the vast majority of coke that is used in the blast furnaces for steel production and since their production facilities are going to be out of action for a few months it has caused nervousness in the market

about 170 quid a ton up here in sunny hull  :y

with the alloys, your better off cutting the tyre off and knocking out the steel ferral's before you weigh them in. you get a better price that way  :y
