Title: Members "Other Vehicles"
Post by: Mr Skrunts on 11 January 2011, 21:36:08
Quite a few of us have more than one car.

So just thought it might be worh having a mention about some of them.

Chris H on his Avatar has a Triupth Sprint RS for example, never heard of the "RS" before, whats that then?

What little gems have others got tucked away.

Err, another Omega ;D

Oh, and the best car I've ever had, a Rover 25 1.6, I've owned from new in April 2000, now on 105k.

Well my oil burner, SWMBO has an Elite estate and we have this tucked away too...

It's coming out of the garage this year for some nice weather runs :y

A mint low mileage Saab 9-3 2.3 Turbo. Unfortunately the head is in the boot, and two pistons had a fight with the cylinders. The drive isn't a patch on any Omega, it was more like a Ford Mondeo.

A 3.0L Senator 24V currently tucked away in the garage awaiting summertime :y

Umm errrr, another Omega and Mrs VXL V6 has an Omega Estate.

I'd also have an SD1 Vitesse (TP) and a Range Rover V8 if
a) I had the money  :'(
b) I had the space  :-/
c) Mrs VXL V6 didn't mind  ::)

I was talking to a mate last year and admitted to having a racecar tucked away called a "megapin" powered I think he said by a hayabusa engine.

Apparently he holds one of the lap records at 3 sisters with it (or did)

Now it's just tucked up in a garage collecting dust.  :-/

Why another 3.2 elite of course, her Polo, and....

2004 Honda CBR1000RR fireblade. Full Akrapovich titanium system, White power rear shock, ktech fork internals, blah blah blah..... and is now totally out of date!

But I love it, suppose I ought to give it a spin this year :(

The first one is 28 years old!

The older ones (Commer and Bedford) will be coming out in the Summer. You need full C1 manual for the Bedford and Commer (and they have crash gearboxes), and C for the Dennis. Although if unlike me you passed your test before '98 you'll have C1.

There's the very non-standard MR2:

(It's turbocharged, chargecooled, got a standalone ECU, Tein suspension, and as much chassis triangulation as will fit)

Almost followed Mark straight off the circuit at the next corner as he found out that Caterhams don't come with ABS and went in a straight line.. Whoops.

At one point it was sporting white Volk Rays wheels and later model tail lights.. the latter went when someone drove into it while parked - same way it's picked up every single dent  >:(

And there's the Nissan 300ZX twin turbo - sadly broken for .. quite some time.

I don't see any reason why not, although not until the summer. The Bedford and Commer are parked up behind aload of stuff in a warehouse at the minute. We've got to put the rear hubs back on the Commer (full brake overhaul after I burst the brake pipe!), and the Bedford isn't insured at the minute. The Commer is 1952! The mirrors are about the size of vanity mirrors in sun shades!

I personally prefer driving the Dennis TBH, the noise is fantastic, you can hear every piston fire!

I did very nearly get a 300ZX as it is a dream car of mine. Alas I went to a Jap show and the raw amount of electrics under the bonnet was terrifying for an older car. I could see big bills very quickly forthcoming.

You should get yourself to the bus/truck and general old car rally at Seaburn every summer.

We'll probable be there, time permitting. My dad and me have three machines but only 2 of us can drive them - doh!!

The Bedford is a TJ, I think the Green Goddesses are TK (slightly bigger), but still have the same running gear and the same engine.

We were going to get a GG but at the time they were overpriced and they're very slow, The Bedford is fast around town if you use 2nd and 3rd, even with the crash box!

Exactly! We've even thought about doing the Tyne Tees run (massive convoy of old trucks and buses etc). It'd be good having all 3 machines doing it! I'll run it past my dad!

You'll have to wear a helmet though!

Chris - your blade is only out of date in the eyes of the biking fashionistas. Its a georgeous bike and Im sure plenty quick enough to put the adrenal glands into overdrive on any circuit you want to ride it on. It could only be out of date if you were racing proper against new machinery, but imo this whole bike mag thing about having to have the new model blade/R1/gixer or whatever is for one purpose only - to help the bike industry to stay in the black. ;)

Sounds good to me.... :y I understand where you are coming from with the Dennis, but I personally lover older trucks and buses, guess it might be an age thing  ::) Only swmbo prevents me from having a green Godess.... ::) ::)

You should get yourself to the bus/truck and general old car rally at Seaburn every summer.

www.nebpt.co.uk

We'll probable be there, time permitting. My dad and me have three machines but only 2 of us can drive them - doh!!
The Bedford is a TJ, I think the Green Goddesses are TK (slightly bigger), but still have the same running gear and the same engine.

We were going to get a GG but at the time they were overpriced and they're very slow, The Bedford is fast around town if you use 2nd and 3rd, even with the crash box!

May be I could help you out, trying to hide my excitement,..... :D :D :D

Exactly! We've even thought about doing the Tyne Tees run (massive convoy of old trucks and buses etc). It'd be good having all 3 machines doing it! I'll run it past my dad!

You'll have to wear a helmet though!

Weekend time I can find, wearing a helmet I can live with... :y I have some practical experience, but not at the level you are at...... :)

I will be your bestest friend if you let me have a drive of the older ones..... :D :D :D

The first one is 28 years old!

The older ones (Commer and Bedford) will be coming out in the Summer. You need full C1 manual for the Bedford and Commer (and they have crash gearboxes), and C for the Dennis. Although if unlike me you passed your test before '98 you'll have C1.

Is that an offer?.... :y :y :y Passed my HGV in a 1963 Commer with a crash box, was a while ago now though.. :D

Heres my other car, sadly don't get to use it too often these days. Used mainly for sprinting and the occasional hillclimb.

My wife thinks I've got too many as I'm the only driver. Besides the elite estate I have a 98 V8 Discovery, Ldv 400 (to earn a living) 96 Golf 2.0l cabby, Jag XJS 5.3 (needs tlc. open to offers) 89 Honda Vfr 750, a 94 Suzuki Gsx 750f, & a twin engined gokart. Oh and the collection of bits I'm trying to assemble as a project to use for track fun. :y

To be fair I've had no real problems with it. although it leaks around the wind screen and the side door it starts every time has the 2.l ford petrol engine and lpg. just can't get this to work. but it earns its keep and has lots of space.

Not to worry Skrunts, I will change the title to members other vehicles for you  ;)

Power to weight ratio of the 47 and 108 are approx:

47 - 22 hp per ton

Do note though, we get that through out the speed range!

108 - 10 hp per ton

Very nice - I'd love a really low mile example 300ZX, but they're getting hard to find (especially unmolested!) now..

Given what mine is now worth (next to nothing) I have started considering stripping it for parts and then getting a new - good - rolling shell.. which is how this one came to life, too (sadly there was hidden rust that I didn't see until it was too late - never trust a mate selling you a car..)

I'd also give my left nut for a brand new GTR..

A Rolladen-Schneider LS-4 sailplane built in 1981.

.. In fact, we've reached the time of year when it's traditional for me to resolve to fly it more next summer. Managed a single 2 hour flight last year, IIRC :-[ I daren't work out the hourly rate. ::)

I daren't work out the hourly rate.

Tell me about it! :-/

I've just scared myself into selling my broads cruiser. I've owned her for nearly 10 years, but last year worked out at over £2000 per day for the two days I spent on her. :-/

Hope the new owners look after her. Still, more cash to spend on the mig. 8-)

My number plate came from one of these.

My grandparents bought the number plate and got the car for free in 1972 iirc for £325  :)

Still got the brown stamped RFL/ V5 book thing.

My CDX is used at the weekned, and this is my daily drive:-

also has a story around it....

My mum always had 1300 V-P Princesses when I was little - I even learned to drive in one. Very hilarious for hill-starts, novice+hill+handbrake+hydrolastic is a great combination.

When I went off to University, I secured a sponsorship from Rolls-Royce Motor Cars designing engines. On the day I was born, my mentor started the design work for the twin-cam version of this 4-litre engine, so I resolved at the time to buy one - I spent my entire final year tooling about in it.

car now needs a full restoration, I have been collecting parts to build a replica of the 1960's works BMC rally "barges", which'll look great towing the 1100 rally car. Might even compete in it myself.
