Title: citroen xsara picasso opinions please
Post by: mathewst on 09 February 2011, 08:15:07
My friend is looking at buying a xsara picasso for his wife.
It is 2008 model with 2.0 HDI engine, panoramic roof parking sensors mettalic paint etc.
The price would be 6000 Euros + his 2.0 petrol 307cc model 2005 i think (or even 2004 cause was one of the first) in not a great condition (scratches, one window doesn't work properly, cd changer is dead etc).
Also his car has twice the milleage than the Xsara.

Any opinions about the Picasso are welcome

I can't comment on the price as I don't know what the market's like there but many people seem to be happy with them. As far as I know the HDi engine is quite reliable now (they had a lot of problems when it was first released) but the electrics have long been the weak point on Citroën/Renault/Peugeot cars.

I know electrics are sh... in all french cars usually.
Was wandering about build quality (is it any good).
In my friends Peugeot it was horrid.

I looked at and test drove one before buying the mum bus and the construction was far from impressive adn solid build would not be a phrase I would use.

In fact, of all the bus type's I tried I ranked it pretty much bottom.

The random nature of the instruments and dash was also rather shite!

I had one in last week, couldn't get to grips with the automated manual box though, found it strange to drive as it doesn't slur its changes like a proper auto. Its like driving a manual with someone else changing gear :D

Had one as a hire car in France for 2 weeks. It was fine, apart from I cannot stand the concept of mpvs

Went well enough, good on fuel, went around bends better than expected (left my mate in a c5 for dust down some mountain roads ::))

I know someone who had a xsara one, which had same/similar dash, and they replaced car after a year, after changing dash about 8 times

This one is also an auto, which doesnt sound to reliable on a Citroen (but seems those 2.0HDI engines always got nice remarks)

My colleague's wife has got one and it's frequently letting her down. Seems there's a wait for 2 weeks for parts any time anything breaks, and most of them are common faults. It's just had a fusebox meltdown (£400 part) which took out the alternator as well, somehow.

Is it the EGS gearbox? had one of those in C4 Coupe forum and it was quite a good box. A much better version o the sensodrive system as ceen in the C2 and C3.

Lol, thought Citroen would have dumped that issue with the demise of the Xantia.

They use a PCB for the fuse boxes and they delaminate....resulting in fractured through hole plating and intermittent operation!
