some day you will all become men and have a man sized 90L tank.  8-)  ;D
And some day you will drive a car with a man sized engine......and a motorbike made to go round corners. :P ;D ;D

 :-?

Try a GS, it will surprise you, they are a lot more nimble than people think  :y

Taken from MCN:

"The BMW R1200GS exudes perennially unflustered excellence. The chassis is superb. The Telelever front end initially feels remote, but once you’re dialled in to the motorcycle and confident the BMW R1200GS can be leant and leant and leant. It’s 30kg lighter than the preceding model, the BMW R1150GS, and the servo-assisted brakes and (optional) ABS help haul the BMW R1200GS up with ease"

Im convinced that BMW and Triumph are majority shareholders in MCN. The amount of 4rselicking they get from that rag beggars belief.
I have ridden a GS Tunnie, a workmate bought one new about 3 years ago. Tbh, for the price I was very underwhelmed.
And my old CBR (worth about 3s 6d) would leave one for dead round the twisties. ;)
As for servo and ABS on a motorbike........ ::)
Sorry for thread hijack. :-[ ::)

Tunnie, sounds like that article they were purely comparing to previous model, which believe it or not, was even worse

Well for my height i found it excellent, i tried other bikes, Bandits, Yam XJR, CBR's ect, did not like any of them, all felt like monkey bikes, way too small. Shoulder ache within 20 mins, uninspiring to ride.

Also last time on the twisties, I left a certain admin for dust when we came across a cattle grid, for some reason his gay sports bike had to slow to 10 mph to cross it?  :-?  ;D

Like to see you get all my camping gear on the back of CBR too  ;)

Which is the other problem with 'sports' bikes, you can't carry more than a tooth brush!

zx10 is not a sports bike Tunnie, nor are Bandits, xjr,s etc. ;)
soft panniers and a tank bag - sorted. :y

sports tourer then  ::)

Soft panniers and tank bag on CBR? you could get all that in a single GS pannier  ;D

It depends on what you want to do, and what your idea of fun is. Different tools for different jobs and all that.Personally if I wanted to travel with a load of luggage I would just take the car.And Im physically incapable of riding long distance these days anyway.
I think if I wanted a bike that could do almost everything I would be looking at a pre RR model Fireblade - it could tour (at a push) do trackdays, be blisteringly fast on the (German) roads etc. Your bike is probably quite good (but not the best) for touring.........
Shoulder discomfort is solved by going faster - the wind blast takes the strain off the upper body - not much good in town though.
I can see an admin making a seperate thread from this... ::) :-[

Yup, looking forward to trips around Scotland next few months. I also, at some point want to do some off-road training in it. But me and my height, i just found it suited me.

XJR felt way too small....

Also sorry for the hijack! It was Albs fault  :P  ;D

Tbh, Im convinced that if you rode a sports bike for a while you would get used to it, but if your more inclined towards touring there might not be much point.
If I lived where you do I would have an R1 and bankrupt myself by doing every possible trackday at Silverstone. :)

wasnt me, he started it. :y :D

Err, left me for dust? When? I seem to recall frequently pulling over waiting for my riding buddy to catch it up ;), despite my 22yr old bike v your 5yr old one ::)

I always ride slow over cattle grids - they are metal, and rubber on metal doesn't work well ;)

Yours isn't really a hardcore offroader, don't get your hopes up too much. Will need better tyres before you start, so prob not worthwhile

A cattle grid at speed could provoke a serious tank slapper - which for someone inexperienced can be the best laxative known to mankind. ;)

After a run near Aylesbury, i had to stop and wait for you to find your teeth fillings after you hit that cattle grid at speed, i replied what cattle grid?  :D

With off-road tyres, GS-Adventure which is better than mine, is one of the most capable around.

Tunnie, you forget, I'm an Aylesbury boy. I can assure you there are no cattle grids within 9m of Aylesbury

But I would always slow down over them for safety reasons. I've done my share of eating Tarmac :(

It was around that area someware, after we stopped for an ice cream on the big hill. We stopped after the cattle grids for a drink, as it was a tad warm that day!

Combe hill and Chequers (where I had to wait for ages for you ::))? None around there. Some at the forestry place later that day, but that's a 5mph speed limit anyway

Must have been another day I guess

Tunnie's argicutral machines suits his needs, so thats all that matters :y

I'm sure deep down, he knows its far from perfect, and flawed in many ways (being an underpowered hybrid), in the same way I know my old bike isn't ideal for everyone (suits me, as its cheap, and reasonably quick though).

I do think with the helmet cam, off road talk and so on, he thinks he can be Ewan McGregor  :-X  ;D

But from my own observations, his riding has dramatically improved - we were recently discussing an incident on his old Yamaha where he overcooked a bend and braked mid corner, which dragged the bike upright and over line (and I filled my pants as I was approaching at speed, and he'd virtually stopped ;D). Nobody is a perfect rider, and the best advice I can give to tunnie is not to get too overconfident (remember the Senator spin ;)), I'd hate to have to visit Horton General as the parking costs are criminal

The GS can be a real weapon in the right hands.  :-X.    The geometry of the tele lever suspension rakes the front end out on the brakes making it very stable. However that engine is a pre war design, even has a hatch to shovel coal in, shame on BMW.

Ta, it also has benefit of not being too powerful. I personally like the boxer engine, bags of torque, any gear, any revs and your off! Lot of other bikes you need to rev the nuts off them to get into the power band.

Rolling off the throttle too, there is soooo much engine braking. Nice little pops and bangs too when rolling off the throttle.

Still, lighting up the hedges in the dark was fun for a while. 8-)

Sorry to but in, but "been there, done that......"

The GS IMHO is a good bike, for what it does well, but its not designed for, nor will it ever be any cometition for an average sports bike. Its a comfortable touring bike with off-road capabilities, (if not a little limited in those).

Horses for courses, ya buys what ya wants for what ya needs are.

(THATS why I bought an RF900 and a CBR1000.................pity you live so far away Chris and co.) :y :y
