Basically been wiped out with all stock for various reasons, anyway, had this 5 series way too long, no matter what it won't go, anyway someone has offered me this in a swap:
03 plate, 90k miles (I think, but it maybe lower), Sat Nav, TV, black nappa leather etc etc the list goes on, to sum up it's lower mileage than my 5 series, I'd do it if it were closer (I'd have to travel 6 hours to get it, and it's fuel there and back), question is do I do it, just to get rid of the 5 series. My biggest worry is, it's a 347 BHP 4.6 V8 with little to no fuel economy, so I don't know whether it'll sell, everything to me says yes, but there's a voice in my head saying "will you sell it" :-/
-
It's also got a private plate alloys & tyres were £6200, and it sounds amazing, but all of that is irrelevent :-/
-
Im loving that, im loving the Alpina wheels and the M62 is a fantastic engine.
Go for it, a hell of a lot of car there.

What is it del? 4.6 V8......
-
It'll sell.... eventually .. but how long and at what price ???
That sort of car, like the 5 series will go to someone who is only looking for "that" car .... you won't get casual lookers or .. if we say you were selling an omega ... someone after a large family saloon ..
It is what it is .. a fuel guzzling monstrosity... that comes with a built in frontal lobotomy.

I think ... possibly ..not sure..... the answer might be.. YES .... :)

Is it another 5 series he is being offered as a swop?
-
Are you planning to keep it a short while? If not then dont worry about resale and buy it. If you can afford to run/maintain/insure a car like that then you're not short of a few bob so dont worry about it and enjoy ;D
-
Basically my 5 series in a straight swap for that, I want to get shot of it straight away (pretty much 3 months maxium time allowance).
-
My brothetr has a 4.8 version of that, its a killer on fuel - he struggles to get 20mpg on a run.
If it has runflats, check rear tyres for inner tyrewall damage - BMW have so daft geo settings which wrecked the stiff inner wall on runflats on x5
-
Personally I don't think I would... Can't see the X5 being any easier to shift than a 5 series :-/ :-/
And I know for a fact that the X5 is really bad for fuel economy and not particularly good as a 4x4 :-X :-X
-
The X5 is worth more though (or it books at more which means nothing in the current climate), fuel, it'll be parked in a garage until it's sold. No run flats on here TB, and 4 brand new non run flat Dunlop boots thank god.

But you know as well as better than I do that book price means bu99er all at the moment, as you have stated ::)
It's your call... If you can afford the risk of it not shifting I suppose there's no harm as you'll only be out the £300 or so fuel to go and swap them :-X ::)
It does sound like a nice enough car and, as you have said, the 5 series isn't shifting... Might be worth a go :-/
Suppose you may be able to swap it again in the future if you needed to ;)
-
If they are genuine Alpina's then someone will pay top dollar and more then likely part ex their old wheels for them as well
-
Genuine Alpina alloys, I think I'd get a better swap from the X5 than I will with my 5er.

Sounds like you're pretty much decided then ;)

6 hours drive, and money for fuel which I haven't got though (seriously when I said I've been wiped out, it's big style).
-
Where is the X5 del?
-
Truro, Cornwall. 5 hours and 35 minutes away according to google maps.

Sounds to me like it's not the right time to be taking a risk, TBH. :-/

Del,did you do the deal ?? :y
-
No mate, decided with my head rather than heart, it's too far, and too much of a risk to go all that way.

Sounds like the best option mate ;) :y

Agreed, what you already have should be the easier sale
-
it will sell..
X5 definitely not good on fast curves so not like your 5 series..
really heavy on fuel..
not practical in traffic jams..
its comfy, high in sitting position, repairs bloody expensive..
outside the roads they are [smiley=thumbdown.gif]
really fast on a straightline but can you stop ;D
you decide..
-
i have a mate with an x5 same colour on an 04 plate 50k full history and has been trying to get rid for 6 months now even the dealers wasn't interested real nice to drive though
-
every car has a buyer at the correct price.. and this price depends on your ability and insistence..
-
He'll meet me halfway :-/

Go with your gut Del... You know you might struggle even more to shift it ;)
Mind you... I swapped my Range Rover for my Omega and am still chuffed with it :y I think it's the first car I've owned that I haven't started to think about changing within 18 months (except for a newer one ::))
-
If the bloke is this desperate to swap his (more expensive?) X5 for your (cheaper) 5 series..
Why is he so desperate?

Roughly the same prices give or take a few hundred.

Del, I've been trying to find a buyer for it for you, I hadn't replied to your PM yet as I was trying to get something sorted. Not a single person interested. The X5 is too old, not a very competent 4x4, nor that good to drive. I would avoid it. If it was a Range Rover you'd be fine, there's great demand for them currently.

Cheers mate, know of anyone after a 5er? Or a 320d M Sport 54 plate, PM me if you need more info.

I know a bloke looking for a new shape 335 convertible .. but that doesn't help you much, sorry! ;D
