Title: urgent help just a quick question
Post by: Smiddy on 18 February 2011, 17:07:25
Hi Guys and Gals,

Looking at buying a 2001 3.2 V6 petrol elite, asked the garage about the cambelt and if they know if it has been changed and got this response -

Chris must have had the wrong file as v engines do not need toothed belt replacement as far as I know as they have mesh belts.
schedule G on the vauxhall service book states that 1.4 1.6 1nd 1.8 engines require replacement every 6 years/60k and cdti engines every 8years/80k.

Is that correct or does it need a cambelt change? its done 80k miles.

Thanks  :y

HTF does he think a cam keeps its timing if it doesn't use a toothed timing belt? :-? ...... apart from a chain. ;)

I too would be questionning his mechanical abilities on that statement  :o

Thanks all,

I was fairly sure it was ever 40k miles but just wanted to be sure.

It looks like I am going to go and see it next weekend, if i do buy it are any of you mechanic chaps down Somerset way in a couple of weeks and feel like doing a cambelt change?  ;D

Thanks
