hi guys i'm after an answer that only you guys could know .Whats the highest mileage a 2.5 diesel omega can do (200k 300k etc etc) i ask this because i'm looking at buying one, it has done over 200k but has full service history.

prone to cracked head with that sort of mileage, i would guess :-/
but i know bog all about the TD :-/

Depends how well it's been maintained ;) if it's had the 3-4k oil changes it's entire life I'd consider it :y

I wouldn't hesitate to buy a 200k diesel if the rest of the car is sound, and the price reflects the mileage.
Just consider the engine disposable, and budget to replace it in the next 4 years/50k - and negotiate the price down accordingly.
although saying that, it might last 50 miles, or another 300k

I've been told of a 500k one that my local dealer were doing something to :o
Problems with them are inadequate oil changes, as the oil plays a vital part of the cooling, and poor oil servicing blocks the cooling jets, the thing overheats, the head cracks in true BMW style, then you're shafted.
The cam and pump is chain driven, so again oil servicing is vital, esp as diesels use the oil to carry away particulates.
So, fresh oil every 3k, new oil filter every other oil change.
The BMW specified 4,500 service interval is probably too long, and the revised 7,500 interval is way too long.

thanks for the replys guys, basically the car is a w reg omega 2.5 td and it has full vauxhall main dealer service history and a brand new gearbox a few years ago, and he wants £700 but as someone has stated it might last 50 miles it might last another 100k but i think i will give it ago and hope it lasts longer than my last omega (my last one sprouted roostertales of water from the exhaust)

why do people do this? not having a go at you as i know that this is common pratice but ive never understood it.if you do not replace the filter it containes approx half a liter of dirty oil which will then contaminate your nice clean oil.
i have heard that a dirty filter is more efficent at filtering[dont know the truth of this but the reason ive been given is that the holes get smaller as the filter cloggs,not convinced myself] but me i change my filter every time i change the oil as its only a few quid.

I agree! Apart from a dirty filter being more efficient. :-?
Some filters have relief valve in them so that when it blocks, the oil by-passes the filter, the reasoning is that dirty oil is better than no oil. :y :y

for 700 quid, i'd grab it so quick, I'd take his arm off as well.
