When you can get this MPG from a 6 Cylinder vehicle :D

But it's a pity he reset the trip computer when in the cruise ;)
My Omega could do that sort of economy if I did the same ::)

It's mine, but before that, a very respectable 46 MPG over 96 miles, I shall do a longer average tomorrow :)

I thought it might be ::)
It was quite a respectable average though ;) ;)
Actually, emissions wise, most LPG converted cars are probably better for the environment than any Hybrid/Electric cars ::)

I should also say that 46 MPG was an average with a 120 MPH burst with an MX-5 on that racetrack, but without using cruise control I got 3 MPG more than what I did before on the same run :o

You will though... Cruise control does everything it can to maintain the set speed so applies full throttle if it thinks it needs it ::) ::)

Oh yeah I understand all that, but 3 MPG, that's a huge saving :o

You should see the difference with a caravan on the back :o :o :o

Ah but which makes you look like a bigger .... owning a BMW, or owning a Prius?
*runs away from Del*
;D ;D ;D
(Only kidding.. and I think it might be the Prius anyway ;))

I didn't think my appearance changed all that much on the occasions I drive my Prius. :( :(

Not on the modern DBW cars it wont.....
The Mum bus sees a continuous average of 48mpg (thats over 9K miles of very varied driving) and on a run returns 54mpg.
-
I shoudl add that my old 2.5 V6 manual was returning 38mpg combined (i.e. door to door so more realistic than the above) on my old daily commute with some careful driving.

You mean you don't drive around with a 'smug' hat on, safe in the knowledge that you're saving the planet the rest of us are killing? ;)
-
Lol, you mean knowing that you have already inflicted devistation on the planet during its construction way beyond that which 99% of cars will ever do. ;D ;D

About time it was sorted... Bugs the hell out of me when it cuts the throttle on a downhill only to apply full throttle to get up the other side ::) ::)
My 53 plate Vectra still did it, although not as noticeably as the Omega

No I must admit I don't - I leave that to the more impressionable souls.
Can one drive these cars and not be a raging tree-hugger who passes bio degradable waste subsequently used for the enrichment of our environment? - yes, without doubt. I stand testament to that fact.

Lol, given how they are to drive, not convinced ;D ;D ;D :y
-
;D They can't drive that badly; the fastest ride I've ever had from Seattle airport was in the back of a Prius taxi - he didn't slow down for anything, including corners (unlike the lumbering American barges we usually get) ;D
Then again, I could never buy one.. I'd spend all my time staring at the neat screen and crash into the nearest tree :-[

The ones I have driven were ok for plodding about in but, cornering was rather an experience, they dont change direction to well!
The power delivery was also a worry.
Probably an ideal town mile muncher but, not an enthusiasts car sadly.

Yes I agree with that.
I've had this since new (2007) and would certainly say that it's a car best suited to the inner urban environment.
As I live in a deep rural environment the main purpose of the car is lost really.
There is no doubt that a different attitude has to be adopted to get the best out of the car which can be a pain in the arse at times but it's good for extinguishing the fires of spirited driving given the appalling state of our public roads and woeful standard of driving exhibited by many.
I did set off to buy the latest model on its release date but walked out of the showroom when the dealer wanted the best part of £17,000 to change (albeit to the new model with the LED lighting system)
At the time my car was just over three years old with barely 10,000 miles on it.
On the whole it has cost little to run, £10 excise duty, Group 7 insurance, three wiper blades, £300 or so servicing cost and an average of 56mpg (falling to 48 in the winter time)
Would I buy another? - Yes if sensibly priced but as it seems that there will be a significant premium on all the new hybrids/electric vehicles I probably won’t.
I'll go the other way and get something tasty from the mid nineties as I don’t drive much nowadays.

Thats the spirit Z. Buy that 840i youve always fancied - LPG it and then lecture Prius drivers about how environmentally unfriendly their cars are in comparison. :y ;D
