Title: Sunday night Driving quiz mk1
Post by: Ronald_McBurger on 08 July 2007, 22:05:54
Seems like a good night to do this, so WITHOUT cheating:

1. How may different colour cats-eyes are there on a Motorway?
2. You cannot turn right directly from any UK motorway. True/False?
3. Emergency vehicles using blues and twos have right of way. True/False?
4. You approach a cross roads, with the main road running from left to right across you. A car approaches from the opposite road wanting to turn right. You want to turn right also. Who has priority?
5. The current driving test requires candidates to open the bonnet before their test. True/False.

There that should do for tonight. NO CHEATING, answer as you THINK the answers should be. First one with all 5 correct wins. I will not say which are right, just how many you got wrong.

lol its got to be a wind up i dont know my motor way yet and wasnt sure on emergency vehicle but i havent started lessons yet and have a provi but from what i remember you have white unless u dont count that as colour but a contrast :P but still thats 1 white 2 yellow 3 green 4 blue ive seen anyway and as for the cross roads the guy on the main road ur trying to get onto has the righter way acording highway code anyway and u cant turn right on a motor way as ud have to cross 3 lanes of on coming traffic
the crossroads again just clear it up u are trying to get onto the mainroad where the other car is turning right which would mean he is turning onto the road u are comeing off and as u said he is on the mainroad and there for ur turning onto his road even tho he cutting across you he has righter way with it being cross roads and all and ur crossing onto the main road

A classic case of failing your driving test Fin. By not reading the question correctly.. The obvious is eliminated by us all.. Of course the main traffic has priority..

Good quiz Fin.. Well done... :y

Thanks guys and gals. No tricks, just as the real driving test. The detail is important.

So popular I think I may make this a regular feature. Next Sunday at 8pm it is then.

Seems like a good night to do this, so WITHOUT cheating:

1. How may different colour cats-eyes are there on a Motorway?  4
2. You cannot turn right directly from any UK motorway. True/False? T unless we refer to a slip phasing into another M road or where there is an unparrallel M way I would imagine!
3. Emergency vehicles using blues and twos have right of way. True/False? F
4. You approach a cross roads, with the main road running from left to right across you. A car approaches from the opposite road wanting to turn right. You want to turn right also. Who has priority? Omega's RULE!! :)   Seriuosly though, we are turning with the flow left to right...  I'm going first 5.
The current driving test requires candidates to open the bonnet before their test. True/False. T  they have to demonstrate a basic knowledge of mechanics....  710 levels etc....  Why does it have 710 written where the OIL goes????
There that should do for tonight. NO CHEATING, answer as you THINK the answers should be. First one with all 5 correct wins. I will not say which are right, just how many you got wrong.

I can assure you all the answers were correct.

There are 5 stud colours. White between lanes, amber for the central reservation, Red for the hard shoulder, green for slip roads and as said blue for the little raise ramps the police park on top of.

The M8 in glasgow does indeed have a right turn from the fast lane, no it isn't onto another motorway.

Yes, candidates do have to answer the show me/tell me questions, BUT the questions are down to the examiner who ncan choose from a set list. It does not mean they MUST open the bonnet unless that is a question that requires it, ie: show me where the oil goes.

Priority is obviously with the traffic on the main road that both you and the other driver wish to join.

Interesting. Cape Town has these all over the motorways that run through the city. Many of them are simply blanked off and don't go anywhere. Rumour has it the construction company who designed the network of flyovers, raised motorway sections, etc. was drafted in from the US and they failed to notice that South Africans drive on the Left (correct!) side of the road until after they'd poured the concrete so most of the exits are from the wrong side of the motorway!

So I had 2 (23), mis read 1 (4), missed amber and blue (1), and didn't know (5)

Sounds bad but not that bad really.

I haven't seen the blue catseyes (not noticed on M5 and I know of two car ramps locally), but then I haven't done a night time motorway run for ages.

4 I misread as two turning off a main road into side roads (tired)

I knew there was 1 or 2 motorways with right turns.

As I used to live in South africa I must say I am surprised to hear that. Certainly around Durban, Johannesburg and Pretoria that isn't the case. All those roads were build by local companies, not American.

Martin, blue cats eyes are to assist the police with locating the ramps from a distance.

Great fun quiz. Interesting how easy it is to misread a question or two, just like real driving.

I'll muster up some more for next week.

Well, it was pointed out by a local tour guide so maybe a bit of poetic licence there?

There were certainly quite a few sliproads from the outside lane that just stopped after 100 yds or so.
