not me but a neighbour, she has an old festa & some bright spark stoved in her rear n/s door with very slight damage to the sill. Car was uneconomical to repair & recorded as a cat D. All this happened a few months ago & now she can't get the car taxed as the DVLA will not send her a reminder until she has the car inspected at a D.O.T. facility, they say to ensure its not a cut & shut. She has not bothered getting it repaired & says it still drives the same as before, car has MOT & is insured but tax ran out yesterday. Just wondered if anyone else can shed any light on this as its the first i have heard of it

i purchased a Renault 5 GT on a cat c a few years back and taxed it no problem with green v5c slip at post office . things my be different now ..
cat levels
Category A - Vehicle must be crushed. All of it.
Category B - Vehicle may not be returned to road. Parts may be sold.
Category C - Repairable. Possibly structural damage. Cost of damage (at main dealer prices and labour rates) is more than book value of vehicle.
Category D - Repairable. Probably non-structural damage. May have been economic to repair, but insurer doesn't want to.
Category F - Damaged by fire.
Category X - Repairable. Minor Damage.
