Title: What causes...
Post by: JamesV6CDX on 10 July 2007, 02:17:39
... Cam sensor failure, on 4 cylinder VX engines? I notice that the XE engines suffer especially, - yet it's almost unheard of, with the V6!

I removed a "failed" (according to ECU) camsensor from a 1.8 S reg Veccy on Sunday - the cable itself looked fine.

So given that it's a hall sensor - what actually "fails"?

I'm sure there's a totally normal explanation, I'm just curious!!

..pass, i have even tried checking the resistance between the pins on a shown bad one and a good one. Only a few ohm's difference between them. Should we ask for a research budget from the government to investigate, or a lootery hand out? (intended misspelling) ;D ;D

When I disected the one TD sent me, it had a failed surface mount cap in it....a cermaic one which might well have simply failed due to the vibrations.

No chance.....you needed a dremmel just to get at it!

It was soldered to a small PCB so could have been swapped.
