I was reading a thread earlier about what is involved in repairing these ECU,s and it occurred to me that it might just be the kind of thing that could be done where I work.
I was speaking to one of the boffins about it tonight, and showed him the pic in the thread etc. and he said he would be interested to have a go at it.
So, does anyone have any more info on the subject.
Details about the steel wire - why does it need to be steel ?
Is the wire readily available ?
Is it always the same one which breaks ?
Any other relevant info ?
Also does anyone replaced theirs and still have the old broken one, that they might be able to send to me so that I could let him have a go at fixing one to see if its possible ? I would of course pay for postafe and maybe a bit on top.
Not sure if its a goer or not, but if it did work out ok, it could possibly be a cheaper reair service for OOFers. :-/

I might still have a failed one that I'd happily donate in the name of research......I'll check at the weekened.

While we are on this subject, is the this issue and the awkward ecu location the same for all models across the board regardless of pre or face lift or engine etc?

yes, though pre 1998 cars use a different ECU, with different screw locations.
