Title: Why my Vectra has no compression - HEAD OFF - PICS
Post by: JamesV6CDX on 09 July 2007, 22:49:37
I think I may have just discovered why my VeccyB has no compression on cylinder no. 3!!

I spent an afternoon, in between showers of rain - removing the cylinder head on my Veccy.

I'll let the pictures do the talking.... pay attention to the exhaust valve on no.3!!

This is what 213,000 miles running on LPG does to your valves - burns the buggers through!

So I need a cylinder head rebuild!

Mark.... I don't think I'll bother with the paraffin test ;D ;D

Rebuilding is fun - do you need a valve spring compressor?

Grinding in the valves, grinding the ports skimming the life out of the head, getting bronze guides fitted ect ect

slight hijack, but same subject, would a car neccessarily fail its mot running on 3 out of 4 cylinders?

i presume a misfire would be picked up emissions wise ?  :-/

It would maybe get an advisory for it, but I doubt fail.
My Elite never failed, when it's gearbox was in limp mode

The only thing that might fail it, as you say, is if it screws up the emissions...
