Title: Full LPG tank weight?
Post by: feeutfo on 29 March 2011, 01:59:05
As title, want to load the boot and see if the rear sags excessively. Full 100litre to be safe.

Not sure of LPG weight, but water would be 80kg, plus the tank weight.

I'd go for about 100Kg all in... Possibly slightly OTT but better that than under ;)

Stako's 360mm 100L tank weighs 34 kg, plus 40kg of gas = 74kg. :y

He'll be having a 400mm dia tank though, although the weight shouldn't be dramatically different.

Plus frame, straps, bolts, spreader plates, filler, pipework, valves etc...

Probably about 85-90Kg I would have thought... :-/

My tank is a GZWM 77L centre filled 4 hole toroidal and according to the shipping weight is 44KGs if this helps.

'tis a good point, though. What we're talking about is the effect of a single fairly well-built passenger sitting slightly aft of the back seat.

Perhaps that answers the question?

I just lifted my new tank into my storage facility (boot of car), got square gonads now. Forgot quite how heavy they are  :-[

What tank did you go for in the end TB?

And where did you source it? I can't get a reply from Teilo to save my life!

What did the rear-end kit cost?

Ta.  :)

Could you explain why you would do that please?
Thanks

As Chris says, to test how much the rear end would sag.

And I guess potentially, to work out the effect on handling?

Main reason is have removed self levelling suspension in favour of far better Bilstein shocks and irmscher springs all round. The ride hight is 30 mill lower than stock now, and I have several fairly hefty speed bumps on my commute. My concern is the extra weight of the tank plus fuel, and posdibly a load of  junk for holidays snd tools for newent might lower the rear excessively.

On the other hand, It is noticeable that the back end is a little skittish on an empty petrol tank, choppy even, but on a full petrol tank the ride is far more supple, think transit van empty and fully loaded.  ;D.  So the extra weight may even help...? Although it needs set up, tomorrow, as rear camber is excessive due the the lower ride hight.

I could re fit sl shocks if the rear is too low, but that would be a real shame, or fit a gay little 80 litre tank and be done. Suspect it will be fine with 100 litre though, and settle the rear into the bargain. :y

Difference between an 80 and 100 weight wise is 7kg in fuel, and probably about double that in the tank itself, though the CoG will be a shade higher.

Weight was one of the reasons I went with the 80, plus I know its a tried and tested 'easy fit' (if I knew where to drill the holes ;D)
