My Kawasaki keys. I've put them somewhere so safe.....
.....and no, they are not in the ignition!
-
No doubt you'll find them when your not looking for them!

Thats what I've been hoping for the past few months. Trouble is, its getting to the stage where I will need them soon. And it could certainly do with being turned over :-[
-
Try your helmet, gloves and leathers ;)
-
if it was me options are
1. refrigerator
2. under the bed
3. inside the shoes
4. pockets
5.bags
so could be everywhere ;D

Tried, not there...

tank bag?
Let me know when you fancy a blast, got some gadgets I will want to try out on the GS.
Been thinking over a one night camping trip someware as a warm up for my trip in April. Not sure where though :-/
-
Is there a lock to lift the seat? In that lock?
..... Just wondering where the key to mine is tbh. :-/

Lift the seat? On a ZX10?
;D ;D ;D
Only storage facility, apart from a tiny lockable compartment (just big enough for a disc lock) is your pockets ;D
And no, key isn't in that lockable compartment.

I reckon last time I used the bike was with Tunnie - we went to Stow on the Wold, down to Northleach, up through Bibury, then back roads from Witney.
Can you remember when that was, Student?
-
i usually find that my keys are where i put them :y
-
they should be in 'the Man drawer' ;) ;) ;) :y

Errrr I remember it, we stayed out a bit longer than planned. You used my O2 phone in Bidbury because (as usual Vodafone was shite)
But i've no idea when that was :-[
Think we got back late, we went our separate ways at the Tesco roundabout.....
I'll boot up my old 6230 see if it has call log still saved :y
-
Damn it, says "time of call not available" for all my call logs.... I did let the battery go very dead since I got my flat :(

Thats the problem with having a bike with the ability to carry about as much as tooth brush! ;)
Get something which can haul a tent, do a few camping trips :)
Mine did about 4k between its last MOT, this year hope to beat that :)

Always somewhere you will never forget.....hanging next to an air freshener? :P

I forgot, or remembered when it was too late. Knackered the battery, had to buy a new one.
I really must get the bits of mine out of the shed and put it back together. ::)
-
oh dear
:-X
-
find them yet? I'll pop back at some point to test some new custom mold earphones I bought, I'll need to take the GS for a blast to test them out 8-)

Have you tried 'the boys' ' drawer?
should be a couple of drawers down from the man drawer :-/

How do people survive without a "man drawer". Strange. :-/
That's your problem, anyway. You need a man drawer. :y

What is a mans drawer and what is kept in it?
Is it like a downstairs loo - full of load of tools?

Mine is where all the bits and bobs that I thought I'd put in the garage actually are... ::)
I have looked, but TBs' keys are neither in my garage, nor in my man drawer. Haven't checked the shed yet though ::)
-
They'll be in the last place you look :-X ::) :D

Dont see what the panic is about. Any old screwdriver should start an old Kwacker. ;)

None of my selection of old keys will do it... ...of course, I haven't tried ::)

Nope, just been looking in even less obvious places, neither the main set or the spare set have made an appearance :(

There's a lock set on the Bay of e http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/kawasaki-zx10-1988-lockset-complete-/390269835095?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item5adde51757#ht_500wt_922 ;) ;) ;)

I wonder if Sue has put them in the same place as Sammy for your own protection :-/ ::)

There are cheaper ones, but unsure how to remove the old ones without damaging bike - particularly the petrol filler...

She claims not. I think, also, unlike Sammy, she quite likes the bike (on hot days!)

It was just the first I found on eBay ;)
I'd think that drilling out the original barrels would be the way forward. :-/ :-/ :-/

Do you have a Haynes book of lies for it ? should be clues in there on how to dismantle the variuos bits. Failing that there should be a forum somewhere - they can sometimes be useful when we encounter problems. :D :y

None of the ZX10 forums seem to have the answer, and most are pretty dead now :(
Book of 'dangle berries' and the Kawasaki guides, neither seem to be that helpful for this task :(
-
I just had a really fantastic idea where the spare set may be... ...but like my farts this week, "I was wrong"
-
Where is the ignition lock situated ? Usually a couple of headless bolts to attach it, which are a pita but not impossible to remove.

Reckon I can do the ign one. Its the fuel filler one.....

how about drawers or cupboards in the garage (assuming your bike is kept in a garage :-/ ;))

Only 2 places I would put keys in the garage, one being the ignition (the key's usual location ::)), and its not there...

One assumes ( ass out of u & me) that one has looked in the obvious place ..... inside your helmet ??? :) 'Twas where I always left mine .. :)

Sounds a bit scary :-[
But it provides a last resort

SwotIfawt. :y :)

Right, some success :)
Not found the rather keys, but found a place is Albs county that could help. Rang them a few times as we tried different options. Due to it having a lock they couldn't identify, I was just about to remove the yoke and send it with the ignition to them for them to create a new key from the ignition lock, when they suggested on last thing. And we found a key number :y
2 new keys turned up yesterday morning, they work a treat. The cost? £12.50 delivered, for 2 keys :y
Had I had sent the yoke off for them to produce 2 new keys from the ignition lock, that would have been £35 for 2 keys, including return postage.
Top, old fashioned service at an excellent price :y
Anybody else in a similar pickle could do much worse than calling Richard at Basildon Locks http://www.basildonlocks.co.uk/ :y
:D
-
Damn site easier, quicker and cheaper than having to change all the locks, and drilling them out :D, not that any of the egay sellers for locksets bothered getting back to me, useless retards.
-

And now you've bought new keys ..... whats the betting the old ones turn up within a week .. :)
So are one set being given to Mrs TB to look after .. as she'll always know where they are ??? :)

I'd never trust Mrs Andy B to remember the safe place that she might put keys for safe keeping. ::) ::) ::)
-
well that's a proper result i would be expecting 100's of pounds and aggrevation well done i always look for my keys on the key hooks just beside my front door ;D but whatever works for you ( finger in mouth looking smug!!lol) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) :y
-
That's a result, but where did you find the key number? Not on the lock surely?

Not sure we will, as we spent a massive amount of time looking for them, not in any of the usual places, or in any drawers (she has a habit of just sliding stuff into random drawers).
I was expecting it to be an expensive job, to the point I have been looking at other bikes, not that I really wanted to change, as this one is cheap (just insured it, £76 Fully Comp SDP+Commute, can ride other bikes).
So I'm happy :y
-
That's a result, but where did you find the key number? Not on the lock surely?
The lock guy was expecting it on the (hidden part) of the barrel, but when I described the wiring and the position of Off/On/P/Lock etc, he said it likely wasn't, as Kwaka only put it on certain lock types. Mine had an unusual lock type. Saved me the hassle of dismantling it :y
Without giving too much away, he said, given the lock type, it was likely the number was stamped elsewhere on the bike, and told me where. He was absolutely correct :y
Every number for locksmiths in this area, no matter what the company was called, went through to the same woman, who although very pleasant and understanding of me constantly ringing her (as I went through Google and the Yellow Pages), obviously had no passion/knowledge for locks. I must have rang the poor lass about 30 times on different numbers ;D
