Title: Monaro parts
Post by: Grrrrrr on 30 March 2011, 21:14:33: Looking at the way petrol is going if I don't get a Monaro soon, I never will. So, seriously considering an upgrade, or maybe keep my miggy and get a Monaro for weekend fun.

Question is: how much will it cost me to service? Anyone any idea where you can get oil filters and how much they are? Air filters?

Went up my local parts shop and it was on their computer system but no parts listed so no prices!

Guessing some guys here have probably played or worked with one?

I have a supercharged 2004 VXR. For all things Monaro go to www.monkfishperformance.co.uk.

Servicing is £120 for intermediate service, around £350 for a 50,000 mile service.

Some parts are expensive, some less so.

Brakes are not cheap. £120 for front pads, £100 for rear. £550 for a pair of front discs and £300 ish for rear.

Top mount bushes and drop links give up at around 40k so upgrade them.

Make sure you use good fluids and keep an eye on diff fluid.

just think of an Omega re-engineered to cope with Australian roads.

engine servicing is particularly straightforward - they don't even recommend changing spark plugs until after 100,000 miles.

Monkfish is the place I go to get bits for mine, when the corresponding Omega part won't do.

Heard of Monkfish, think they're up north of Aylesbury near Milton Keynes somewhere?

I'll keep an eye out for a black Monaro down the Thames Valley corridor. Quite often down that way.

By the way, how hard's the ride? If I've got a kid in the back is it likely to jiggle his milk-teeth out?

Post by: Sipey on 02 April 2011, 21:10:32: The ride is very compliant, not much roll into the corners but does not crash over bumps either. The car gives you two weeks notice for a power slide - very easy to drive.

You can of course upgrade the suspension and I would recommend the road response pack from Monkfish.

Agreed, the costs of a Monaro are nothing compared to an M5. Get it supercharged and you will be looking at M5's in your rear view mirror all day long :D

Dont expect it to be as well finished as an M5 though, some of the interior plastics are straight out of the ELC. But it does have soul and road presence in spade loads.

I'd feel safer if it was garaged but I can only get the miggy in by taking everything out and touching the front wall and almost scraping the side on the side pillar. No-way a Monaro would fit in.
