Take the Mazda but leave the engine - what a glorious sound. :-* :-* :y
-
even better at 5am on an early shift :o ;D

I prefer the noise of the rotary engine :-[
-
Your joking surely?

Not to mention the weight. :y

No, that just sounds like a V8 with a very open exhaust.
The howl of a rotary is 'special' in a rare kind of way.
Loud does not equal good :y

Weeeell almost BRM territory...

That's a 4 rotor though.

That's a 4 rotor though.
It may be, but to me it’s an unrefined racy sound – the sound of an 8 will always remain iconic in my ears. :y

An 8 will always be unrefined, now a 6 or 12.....
-
What rubbish! Any configuration except I take it? ;D. :P
It is a thunderous sound, weather loud or silenced...poweeeer as JC would say!
Pee shooter rotary indeed, pah. >:(

how about these

Well, if you threaten to beat the keek out of me I'll give the 12 some thought but, in my heart, it always comes back to the 8. :-* :-* ;D :y

"Weeel, TBH, I'm not even interested in running unless you're going to nail it" ;D
A mate of mine had a rotary engined Westfield. It was about 115dBA @1m idling IIRC. ;D

Ah, but what was the capacity, ha ha, let's see that one answered, hmm? ;)

Swept or static?

Dont get me wrong, I like 8's but, its a fact that an 8 wont run nearly as smoothly as a 6 or multiple there of.....if you dont belave me....work out the firing order, exhaust config etc.....thats why they burble...because they are uneven.
-

Doesn't matter so much if you can rev the bejeesus out of it without valves hitting pistons. Give it more air and it'll make more power. *
Kevin
* - May require frequent, expensive rebuilds, and drink like Oliver Reed

The later ones are pretty good though

Swept or static?
Both :P. ;D
Obviously what ever answer is given I won't have the slightest clue if it's correct or not. So I think your safe. :D

That's the attraction, IMO. ;)

IIRC 10 litres, 9 cylinders, supercharged and it kicks out 360-400 BHP. :-*
One of them visits the gliding club quite regularly. Sounds gorgeous, IMHO, and it was designed as a trainer for the Soviet air force so it's built like a brick khahzee. -5,+7G and fully aerobatic.

Ah yes, the design mantra of the Soviet air force - "See that barn over there? Yep. Stick some wings on it. Now put a big engine in it. OK, that's our next generation aircraft!" ;)
A bit like the way Americans design cars, really...
