I'd be looking for a Jag :)
-
C or E class Merc? :-/
-
why dont you want a bmw??? I just happen to have been looking at the 7 series from around 2002, and believe me, £8000 in my hand, the first choice for me is exactly that!!

I was just going along with Danny's BMW suggestion.
I had a drive of an E320 the other day ............. & it flew! (once the turbo spooled up ;)) :y :y :y :y
-
Jag S type diesel 2.7 twin turbo :) :) :) :) :)
-
another omega
-
are we talking similar size car, estate maybe?
Either way, diesel large saloon or estate for 7-8k.....i'd say prestige brands, a couple of years old with a good history.
Front or rear wheel drive a preference?
Most cars nowadays seem to be front wheel drive, even volvo switched in the 90's.
So BMW is one of the only decent reliable RWD manufacturer consistently using that chassis style.
Get a nice 525d, or 530d, or if you can find one a 535d, for 8k. Will have all the toys, good looks, great engines. Even the twin turbo 535 will all that power can still do 40+mpg with ease.
and the newer 520/25/30d engines can do up to 60mpg on a run.

or how about this....

I've read up on it thoroughly and it seems to be a one of kind which was way ahead of itself.....
A true special car created by someone who knew what they wanted.

Still a lot of money though for a 10/11 yr old car. :-/

I would be looking for a large RWD car with a biggish engine - like these, although they're not diesel;

or if these are too strong.....

As you don't want a Beemer, 7 series would be ideal, but, I'd say E-Class Merc e320/e270 CDi, Audi A6? Loads of good choices out there.
-
only 1 to go for really Jag S-type 2.7 twin turbo diesel better than the germans and head and shoulders over the japanese. May be bias as ive just got 1 myself
-
My main concern with buying a bmw is ive been told the ride is hard on them given i have spinal problems i want something that can waft along absorbing the bumps like my omega but i want a newer car mind you i never considered the 7 series range ive only ever been in a 3 series
in all honesty i wanted a chrysler 300c but there out of my price range.
Idealy rear wheel drive and have a decent amount of power from the engine. i would possible buy an lpged petrol but i am looking for a diesel
Who does a 3000cc diesel?

Sounds like you need a Volvo, they are comfy..... :y
-
Another Omega, and use the change to re do the kitchen and have a nice holiday or two. :y
-
you know the jag would be comfy.
Bimmer will usually be stiffer, bit more sporting.
Volvo is front wheel drive,
Mercedes will always be a good choice.
Yes 7k is a lot of money for a 10yr old car, but not really for a 10yr old car that was worth best part of 70k when new in that spec....you get A LOT of car for your money. And mega performance too boot.
Probs not what he's looking for though, i admit.
There has to be some 300c 3.0l d saloons out there touching 8k now?
-
This is close, and could probs bargain down to 8000 on the dot if not more.

Under 8 again,

A fraction over 8 but much less miles, again could be bargained down,

Who does a 3000cc diesel?
BMW, Merc, VW Group, Chrysler (merc lump). Kia/Hyundia (old merc lump).
GMC also do a nice line in v8 diesels. 8-)
Alfa might do something with the 3.0v6 cdti Vectra lump. :-/
Chrysler 300c hemi with lpg? 8-)
-
Volvo is front wheel drive,
Also available with awd. :y
-
7 series Beemers are uber comfy and 231 BHP and 40 MPG sounds good to me :y
-

Had a look before and there is nothing available with under 110k mileage for £8000. So they most likely not an option.
And anything earlier, like an XC 70 is probs not the right styling..
But your are correct, they exist
-
at the moment i have a pug 306 turbo diesel also (main car) the omega is a sunday car, as its a 3.0 petrol, im considering a saab 9-3 1.9 vector sport (150 brake) thye are quiet reasonably priced, had a shot of my mates and its comfy and nippy.
-
which is basically a vauxhall anyway, so will be familiar territory.
-
agreed a vauxhall with a bit more, class shall we say, compared to a 150bhp vectra
-
A mate of mine had a 9-3 turbo convertible. I thought it was over priced crap tbh. Couldnt think of anything good to say about it. :-?
For me, 7-8 grand would probably be spent on a Beemer or Merc.
-
Chrysler 300c hemi with lpg

Who does a 3000cc diesel?
If you buy a 5 series BMW without run flat tyres. The ride is very smooth :y

This is true, mine gave a smooth ride on 19" wheels and 30 profile Tyres.

Audi A6 Quattro, preferably the 3.0TDi.... oh, sorry, I'm biased too... but working out as an extremely good (and fast) successor to my great Omegas.... even if the ride is a bit firm and the steering a bit light....
