Title: LPG - How does it work?
Post by: blackviper90210 on 12 April 2011, 08:33:44
Morning all,

Ref LPG. I have a "star-gas" system fitted to my mig in 2002 (not by me though). The car has only done 19k since then.
After taking the car off my dads hands, I notice that LPG kicks in a different times.

I leave the switch constantly on gas.

Sometimes it starts on petrol and at some point changes over, other times it starts on gas and stays on gas.

On petrol she ticks over perfect, but on gas she's a little lumpy.

It was noted on the last MOT that there was a possible air leak whilst running on petrol, but knowing jack about mechanics of a car, I don't have a clue what that exactly means  :-?

Any pointers please?  :)

TIA :y

Switching to gas depends on engine temp. being up to the set perameter. Gas will run a bit lumpy on a cold engine.

Do you have any software for it?

As Chris said it is temperature dependant.
Mine takes about 4 minutes during winter to switch to lpg and only a minute during summer (both starting from cold of course).

I would bet money that if it's "star gas" it'll be some awful mixer system, and I'll bet my right arm the coolant feed is plumbed incorrectly  ::) ;D

Hi mate,

That offer would be very decent of you  :y

I see that you've got a house move in progress, so when your available and I can get down to you, that would be awesome!

Cheers, Dave  :)

Noticed any facelift saloons in silver with a spoiler and a slight suspension drop?

'fraid not.

With losing my job and few other interesting things happening, my head is up my arse at the moment!  :(

I'm over in Catshill, B61.  You?
