Just called VX (Evans Halshaw) to get a quote for my new valves.
£54 per valve!!!! That's £432, just for the exhaust valves - £864 for all the valves!!!
Complete daylight robbery.. anywhere I can get them cheaper?
-
Are you sure £54's not for a complete set? :o
I took a set of 16 valves out to Cape Town for a mate of mine when I went there on honeymoon. These were specials of non-standard size and material for a tuned engine and the total cost for 16 was only about double that!
I'd expect £7-10 per valve or so.

I double checked alright - £54 a valve!!

Think this kit will do the job

Fit a Vx exhaust manifold gasket though.

54 quid a valve is total lunacy.
I would investigate getting them elsewhere. Failing that, buy a head from a scrappies and clean up the valves from that.

£54 is ridiculous, try Autovaux.
I hope you laughed at them!
Pity ICS in Bristol Road is shut done

Just curious the ad mentions SET CONTAINS THE MLS (MULTI LAYER STEEL) HEAD GASKET i'm assuming this is the standard or are there other types to avoid.

I would say about a tenner too...garage boss where i had it compression tested reckoned on about £10 for the valve.....tho he would have got trade price at a motorfactors.
So your changing them all then?

Yup, all 16 of em... full head rebuild.
-
at the sort of money quoted in your first post for all the valves a new ( and i mean brand new) engine could be had.

Bearing in mind - with the LPG conversion, and it being an Estate, I'm probably going to keep (rather than sell) - and run it instead of an Omega.
Hence, if I'm keeping it, I want the engine in tip top condition :)

Is that trade price?, if not give me the reg., number of the car and I'll get you a trade quote tomorrow. :y

I would inspect the other valves first, clean and regrind in as ness...no need to change all of them. IMHO.

If ones burnt out.....then others could on their way.....be a shame if James changed just the one....then shortly another went and had to take the head off again.....this engine has done over 210k miles!

Once the valves are removed and cleaned it should be quite obvious if they need to be replaced i would have thought :-/ Espically at that price :o
Talking of that, any good engine shop should be able to source the valves at far less money than that ;)

I think the link Mark provided is a blooming good price for all the valves...16 valves for £99 even if you dont use the gaskets
