Title: Astra Diesel breakdown - help !
Post by: Big_Al on 22 April 2011, 18:11:05
hi guys ,   neighbours T reg 1.7 diesel Astra van,  came to junction across the road from here & just died. Pushed it to outside of his house.

Turning over fine but will not start. Half tank of fuel,  no management light.

Any pointers would be great. TIA   Al :y :y :y :y

Check for fuel/leaks at the injectors will be the best place to start ;) ;)

If it was running fine it sounds like the shut off solenoid has activated... May be a fuse, may be a broken wire but checking for fuel is the best start (assuming it's not turning over quickly... i.e. Cam belt ;))

Guessing it's a low blow 1700 single over head cam diseasal - X17DTL. Get a code reader on it, good chance it'll be the fuel pump (can't remember the code  :-/). As they're a fortune new there's loads of dead 1.7 TD Astras around. I got a recon'd pump for £350 for mine.
