Title: Do I fit Traffic Master or not?
Post by: Lazydocker on 10 May 2011, 10:34:47
The replacement car doesn't have TM fitted and I must admit I find it quite useful. So... Do I bother fitting it or not? :-/

Yep. I would/am.
Must admit, I'm thinking it would make sense :-/ Plus, I think it's also the ideal place to find the required connections for the H/F kit :-/

While on the subject of traffic master, I have the little button but by the looks of it, it doesn't work?

Doesn't talk or doesn't give any traffic info?

I would, and did fit TM to TBE

The system isn't perfect, but like satnav, an additional driver aid to help with decision making

Given the lack of tmc (here we go ;D) it's all that's available built in with these ncdc head units, it's that or swap it out for inferior speakers and loose a load of functions like CID and check control.

Doesn't do anything, there is a little red LED guessing that does something

I think if the LED is lit up then there should be some subscription on it... I reckon it's in manual mode :-/ :-/

I assume you've pressed the button?

Ditto that!

Listen to the radio, or, buy a decent SatNav which gives accurate traffic information and re-routes you accordingly.  :y

Reckon someone might have disconnected the output then, because it should say something

Got a "decent" sat nav (which incidentally uses the same network of monitoring camera's for it's information ::)) but find TM to be quite useful... It's saved me sitting in long jams at least twice a year, which is worth it IMO :y At the end of the day, it's only an aid, not something to live by ;) ;)

Tunnie... It might not be much cop for someone who predominantly uses 1 or 2 roads, but when you travel the length and breadth of the country, frequently on major routes it's worth every penny ;)

Any idea how to re-connect? Would it have just been un-plugged as it were?

The unit is up under the dashboard, steering column height IIRC... Trace it and look for loose wires I suppose

Having used Tom Tom traffic, rac traffic info, orange traffic, and traffic master predominantly along the m4 m25 m40 a404 a3 area I can say it's without doubt the most accurate of all of them. By some way.

I also have a feeling they may all be based on the same info. Possibly wrongly. By no means sure.

But whatever, using these in an attempt to navigate without issue brings home how difficult it is to relay traffic to drivers accurately. TM has limited range, but therefor has less time to be inaccurate.

Clearly Tunnie has had different experience. Can only give my experience as I find it.

But as said, as far as built in info goes, there's nout else.

I,d rather have a TM built in than a line of gadgets across the interior.

I knew there was a reason I retro fitted it to my current 3 cars ;)

Its not perfect, but is a useful aid, esp on those roads with junction numbers - motorways, A14, A1 etc. Its quite accurate as well, and on very busy roads, you can get to hear of a jam as its building.

I wouldn't be without it.

For the 8p a day or what ever it cost I find TM really useful round the M25 and in London, how much petrol can you buy or save for 8p.

The Google Maps App (Live Traffic) uses Trafficmaster info, for free, although think it only works for the Motorways iirc.

Seem to remember TM was also free on the Vauxhall website, although not been on there for a while.

Chris.
