Cambelt due in 15k or by sep
Change now or in summer
-
May as well do it now, get it out of the way :y
-
do it now. had a mondeo once and was going to wait till it needed doing but then it snapped gutted :(
-
for the sake of 4 months, do it now.
Can you guarantee they did the tensioners when it was last done?
suprised youve driven it this long :o
-
Leave it a bit longer... Lakes & Newent before/when it's due ;) ;) :y :y
-
Mine was done 7 years ago but has only covered 35k, I think i should do mine too

Of course they did... He's got a full Vx service history :-X ::)
But you make a fair point... With the other, unknown problem, perhaps changing it would be more sensible

Cambelt due in 15k or .......
You've got till the end of Aug or 14 999 miles ...... you've got ages yet!! ::) ::) ::)
-
change now and after 1 month check the tension imo :)
-
As the kit is sitting in the garage, fit it, it's no good sat on the shelf looking at you crying, so to speak, over a load of bent valves.
Get it on the car, ESP given recent events and a history you've questioned yourself.
Mine however, is fine, obviously. 8-)
If only I could be sure about that noise.... :D
-
unwrap the tree branches and put a proper belt on :y
-
Personally I don't even let my own run up to the 40,000 miles or 4 years seen to many go at that time :-?
Get it done now JAMMIE :y
-
i say change now as surely in summer there's better things to be doing than changing a cambelt!
-
I voted yes from the luxury of my arm chair on the internet behind a monitor.
:D ;D

I'd do yours as a matter of urgency! 7 years sounds a long while and most people on here wouldn't dream of leaving it past 40k.
-
It won't matter when you change it. It will still piss down with rain an hour into replacing it ;D :D
-
Your cambelt fitter will be at the lakes. ;D

Or 4 years, so 3 years overdue... :( :( :(

Strewth, thats 3 years over due, it will end in tears :(
-
get it done and out of the way TB,plus you don't know if a muppet did the last change :D ;D
-

It can rain all it likes an hour after I start the work - I will be long finished within that time ;)
//Edit: Assuming the previous monkey timed it properly, and I don't have to mess around getting the locks in properly
-
My reasons for leaving until the summer is that I intend to keep the car a while, so likely will be putting another belt on at some point. I'd rather it became due in the summer again, rather than having to change it in our normally wet Spring (not undercover facilities here.
I can't change it at Lakes or Newent, as its likely that Mrs TB will want the car so the OOF Widows can try and lose Mrs AutoAddict in a shopping centre again go out to play ;D
-
I have done 22,000 on mine, got a potential leaking cam seal (if not it is oil pressure sensor) not cam covers.
If I do it this summer - would it be worth fitting a new belt?
-
Mines now 500 miles overdue. Will be done tomorrow. ::)
-
Its getting done in the next few weeks. will i need to change water pump too?

The conventional wisdom says yes, although Im not entirely convinced. Having said that, I bought what appears to be a decent quality one at a decent price, so was planning to change it with the belt and tensioners tomorrow - if Parcelfarce can be arsed to deliver it.
-
I thought so too for the sake of £23

Any chance its leaked onto belt? If so, yes

You doing it yourself/garage/OOF mechanic....?

I'll second that ..... :y
" never put off 'till tomorrow what you can do today.... "

I'm pretty competent and I did my old vectra one before and that was a nightmare. I have all the locking tools too so once payday comes ill get the parts. assuming the last person timed it right should be no problem as its right in front of me.

Get the OOF DVD it will be the best few quid (£4 ?) you ever spend. :y

£3 delivered.
Well worth it, even if you do have to look at Marks DTM Calib's knobbly knees ;D

My experience is that its more to do with hours running than yrs/mileage.I have an x reg mv6,ex met police ,all motorway miles, changed original belt kit at 92k and it was A1.Also until last sept had an ex tvp r reg mv6,changed original belt kit also at 92k with a Gates Kit - motorway miles since 2003 now on 172k and running strong.........
I think 4 yrs 4o k may be a little conservative but its an individual judgement...........
-
I agree with the above to an extent, its also boils down to pot luck too lol.
