Hi, noticed a clanking noise today, had a look and yaay my springs have broken (1coil) so as im going to change them i wanted a few OOFers opinions on some stiffer springs for the rear of my elite which has S/L suspension. something which has been tried and tested maybe! or could it be as the springs were weak they felt sloppy TIA :y
Ps didnt put it on help, as not urgent but just general opinions...

im guessing aftermarket, did you notice any significant changes in handling?

Hard to say for certain as I've also got a 90L LPG tank in the boot ::)
But it did feel a little firmer, although that could also have just been because they were new springs ;) Boge off the top of my head :y

Depends what you feel of the original ride and handling....?
Self leveling shocks will work with any spring from my experiences, have tried the originals obviously, kyb sl, stock and mv6 springs. So I don't see a problem with anything firmer still. Irmscher or stienmetz are lower and firmer. But the ride hight sensor will need a tweak
However sl shocks themselves are not great when it comes to handling, but if you need the load capacity best to stick with them obviously.
But bare in mind matching the front. Sl or standard springs should work with that ride hight. Mv6 or any performance springs and the front will need changing as well.

i was thinking of putting mv6 and giving them a try, from a breaker here maybe? but to source 4 would be harder said then done! should i just stick vx in there, if putting on others wont make noticable difference?

Sl and stock springs are cheaper from kyb via butpartsby. They are good quality and give the same results as vx which are expensive.
Mv6 you really want face lift lowered sports chassis, but that means doing the front as well, including shocks thinking about it, and then your into set up as well to reset camber and toe to the new ride hight. So might be more than you want to spend. Results are worth it though. Sadly new mv6 lsc are only available from vx, trade club helps, as will Andyc if your not a member I guess.
Cheapest and simplest with slightly firmer ride would be kyb's equivalent be standard (non sl ) springs. And you'll get away with no set up....and you won't have to mess with the ride hight sensor, it should be correct.
(Not sure if pre face lift mv6 springs would be of use? I don't know the pre face mv6 hight and weather the springs are standard anyway..? Think they are...anyone? )
Vx is not a cheap place to buy springs, but if you must trade club or andyc help.

Careful with breakers. Problem is knowing the history. It's not uncommon to fit used springs and then have them break soon after. Which may need another set up when replaced again for new.
However it's a good way to acquire mv6 suspension if they come up.
Also don't be tempted to fit any cheaper spring than kyb. Bits of metal bar bent in a coil shape does not make a spring worth having IMO.

just replaced the rears on mine ith s/l kyb, the ride is the same.

I,ve had a set of KYB self levelling springs fitted now for a few months and quite pleased with them.
True the Elite is a bit of a " dreamy/magic carpet ride" but as I spend many hours behind the wheel of it I really like the quality of comfort it gives....especially with new rear shocks and donut bushes.
Just waiting for those nasty Avon rear tyres to wear out and then replace with something that doesnt cause the rear to vibrate at speed..and its not alignment or balance as they are spot-on.

Checked the inside egde of the wheels for dings or out of round....? :-/. ( :'( )
